YT 2000 Club Member | New Here, Maggy & I Hi everyone, just wanted to introduce myself here since I'm a newbie, my name is Tracy and my girl is Maggy May. She's part yorkie and part chihuahua and is 8 weeks old now. I posted a bit of the story about Maggy in another forum I'm a member of and a very nice lady gave me the link for this place and said I should post my story here, that you all have lots of good advice and info here. So, here I am, and here's what I had posted about Maggy's life so far: The lady that had the pups we got had 28 dogs inside and 25 outside. She didn't even know the litter of pups we born until she moved the couch. She told her daughter (who in turn told my Aunt) that if she didn't find homes for all 6 of the pups she was having them all put down. Well, she found homes for 4 of them and then my daughter took one and my husband and I took the other one. I didn't get to SEE the conditions they came from but I heard about it and it wasn't good at all. The lady didn't want anyone at her house so she had her daughter come get the last two pups and take them to my Aunts house and then we got them from there. Sadly, my daughters pup died. The pups were part chiuahuah and yorkie and we so infested with fleas and totally full of tape worms and round worms. We took them to the vet just as soon as we got them and found out they also had yeast infections in their ears along with ear mites. I had stayed up for three days and only had 1 1/2 hours sleep takin care of the pups and trying to help them stay alive. They were only 6 weeks old, way to young to be away from the Momma. We ended up having to take Jess's pup into the emergancy vet hospital around 2 in the morning, but sadly, Gibbs died at 7:05 that morning. He was so infested with worms and had started bleeding really bad when he started passing them after the vet gave them worm meds. The lil guy was such a sweet heart and deserved a life of nothing but love and joy. We wrapped him up in is blanket and Jess put his lil toy in his paws ad we buried him outside her livingroom window. In the spring she wants to plat daisy's and forget me not flowers on his grave. I held him while he took his last breath and assured him he was getting his angel wings and to fly up to heaven, that Appollo and Titus (our previous dogs that have passed on) were waiting for him in heaven and would love him and care for him till we got to heaven. Two days after Gibbs passed, my lil girl pup Maggy took a tur for the worst. I rushed her to the vet and they immediately put her in ICU and started IV's. There was nothing we could do but pray and hope God would bring her through it all. By the grace of God, maggy did pull through. We got to bring her home and she's doing pretty good now. I took her back to the vet yesterday for another check up and to perhaps see if she was strong enough yet for her first series of shots (which I'm scared to death to get for her after all she's came through) and the doc was very pleased with her progress. She oly weighed 1 pound 4 ounces when we got her, then when she took a turn for the worst, she lost more weight, but yesterday when they weighed her, she gained 4 ounces, YAY!!! The doc was very pleased. The mites are dead and I have one more dose of that med to give her, but the yeast infection is still in her hears after being on meds for that for two weeks. The doc had me put her back on the meds for that for another two weeks and hopefully on her next checkup, the yeast infection will be gone. He ran a fecal ad all the worms and worm eggs are gone so that's WONDERFUL news! I have to feed her every 4 hours to make sure her sugar doesn't drop to dangerously low levels (very common in small and toy breed dogs) and I'm now able to stop the night feedings. I had been doing night feedings with her since she came to us so she'd keep her strength up. The doc doesn't want to give her any vaccines yet because of how bad sick she was, he's schedualed me to bring he back in a month after her immune system has time to get stronger and we'll decide then if we're gonna start her series of vaccines then or wait a bit longer. I made sure to schedual it on a Monday very early in the AM in case she'd have any kind of reaction and take a turn for the worst. Seems like anytime something happens to our furkids, it's always on a Saturday after our vet is closed and we can't see the doc till Monday when they open. At the present time, she's sleeping in her bed right here beside me nuzzled up to her stuffed animals and covered up with her favorite pink satin and fuzzy blanket. Yes, she's quite spoiled already and has won all of our hearts from the first time we laid eyes on her and Gibbs. I only wish Gibbs would have made it to. Here's a picture of Miss Maggy May I took the other day when she was feeling better, she's such a sweetheart. She now weighs 1 pound 8 ounces and is 8 weeks old. Well, I was going to post the pics of her but I have to figure out how to do it here, lol. Soon as I figure it out, I'll post it.

| OMG what a terrible experience for you. I can't imagine the way these babies came into the world. So sorry to hear about Gibbs but so happy that Maggy May is doing good. She is adorable. Did the vet give you nutrical for her? It helps to keep the sugar from dropping. That would be good to give her at night time. So glad you came into her life. Best of luck, looking forward to seeing more pics of her. Deana Prestigeous Yorkies |

YT 2000 Club Member | Thank all of you for such a warm welcome and all the compliments on Lil Miss Maggy May, I'm sure if you were all here she'd kiss ya to goodness for it ;-) About the Nutrical, the vet didn't suggest it but I had already read up on it and had meant to ask him about it but with all the stress and worrying and just wanting to hear the words "she's ok" I totally forgot to ask him. I found it at Petco the other day though and was going to call my vet back and ask him about it. Since you all here are more expeirenced with Yorkies though, hopefully you can tell me, is it ok to give it to her nightly or should I wait till her immune system builds back up? I want to do what's best for her and don't wanna cause any tummy upset or set her back in any way. I do have the kayro syrup though, (the dark kind, it's the only kind my hubby could find for me when we had Gibbs ad I was trying to safe him. I'll run right out and buy the Nutrical tomorrow though if it would be good for Miss Maggy May and not hurt her. About the lady that Maggy and Gibbs came from, no, I haven't turned her in and BELIEVE ME, I SOOO want to!! My Aunts one of those people though who doesn't want to get in the middle of things and she won't tell me where the lady lives. It upsets me not only because we lost Gibbs, but because I think of all those other poor animals that lady has and I can only imagine how they are being neglected. I'd love to report her and see all of those animals taken our of her home. We have other furkids here and let me tell ya, they are all loved and spoiled rotten to the core, lol. I can't imagine EVER keeping any of our animals outside or not KNOWING or noticing that one of our furkids had a litter of pups or was all the sudden a lot skinnier. It breaks me heart to see any animal mistreated and we're all so thankful to have had Gibbs for the short time we did, at least he knew love the time he was here with us and he didn't die under a couch alone. He died in my hands and I told him it was ok, get his angel wings and fly up to heaven and Appollo and Titus would be there waiting for him and they'd take care of him till we got to heaven. We love Maggy May to goodness and somehow I think there's a cord that grew to her and I, she's always on my heels chasing me or in my arms or in my face covering it with kisses or I'm covering her in kisses. I'm sure you'll hear lots from me about her, she's a true blessing in our life.

| nutrical should only be given when needed. Karo syrup will work as well. You don't want to constantly use it as it will cause her blood glucose levels to rise and fall quickly. She needs to be able to maintain a normal blood glucose level on her own. Feed her small meals very often throughout the day and night..as long as she is eating okay, she shouldn't need the nutrical. If you notice any signs of hypoglycemia, that's when you want to give the nutrical. It's just something good to have on hand in case you need it. It's always good to have it with tiny puppies and young puppies

| Wow, what a great mom you are...As Myfairlacy said, white karo syrup works just as well, and it's something that most people have on hand(you can also use honey)..I would try free feeding, leave her food down all day until she's out of the woods..This lady definititely needs reported..Sounds like she has way too many dogs, and if she doesn't get them spayed/neutered, they are just going to keep having puppies..so sad..Please report her if you haven't already.. Welcome to yt also..Your baby is just adorable.. |

YT 2000 Club Member | Thanks for the compliments ladies and thanks for the advice on the nutrical as well. I'll but some today and have it on hand in case I ever need it. As of right now, I'm feeding her every four hours throughout the day but I'm still mixing it with warm water. It isn't a grewl, but it's all softened. The vet wants me to continue doing this for now until I take her back to the vet on the 4th of February. I stopped feeding her throughout the night about 4 days ago (after our vet said it was ok) so far she's doing good without the night feedings, no signs of hypoglycemia and eats good throughout the rest of the day.
