| Griffonshire I have a question for everyone my niece just called me today all excited that she just got a new puppy and wanted me to come see it. When i got there and seen it i didn't really know what to say because i knew she had been wanting a yorkie for so long and this looked like a yorkie sort of. All of a sudden she just starts going on and on about it telling me the breeder told her that it would be no more than 6-7 pounds and that it would have long beautiful hair and that it would look just like a yorkie that is when i said look like a yorkie? well what kind of dog is it and she said a griffonshire i am like what what is that and she told me it is a yorkie/brussels griffon mix Well when i got home i googled it of course the problem is any pics i find look nothing like the puppy she has hers looks more yorkiesh than the ones on the web. My question is...is does anyone here know anything about them as in looks height weight? or did she get totally lied to? |

| Well the gal, I adopted my 2 yorkies from - she had a new baby & was overwhelmed at the time & Roxy was too jealous - then got a brussels griffon this spring for her now 4 yr old daughter. She told me one reason she got the brussels griffon was because he would be bigger and sturdier than a yorkie, so what your niece was told about size may not be true. Also, brussels griffon can vary a lot more in colors than yorkies - I think. What does your niece know about this pup's parents?

| A brussels griffon ususally gets to around 8-10 lbs. so, it's actually not a lot bigger than a yorkie, infact, that's smaller than my oldest yorkie.. |

Ok well i called her to find out and this is what she was told that the mommy was a 8 pound brussels griffon and her daddy was a 4pound yorkie but that is just what she was told because the breeder didn't have the parents of course and she said that the woman only had 2 left when she got there her puppy and then another one that she said looked way different said the other one was brownish red with short hair. She gave 650 for this dog i hope the part about it being sturdier is true because she is only 14 and not gentle with animals not that her age has anything to do with it she has just always been rougher with animals than most people (that is why i don't let her hold my babies without supervision)

Well that isn't to bad in size actually the bigger the better for her because like i said before she is pretty rough with animals i am suprised her parents actually get a dog at all. And 8-10 punds sounds like it may be smaller than my Max ( i think her might be over 10 full grown) I just feel like she got ripped i just don't think it is going to turn out the way she was told it would.

| If you know in particular the kind of dog she wanted, a cross bred dog is never a good route to go because there is no way of knowing what the end result will be. (without even getting in to the other reasons 'why' it's not a good route ) There is no way this person could say what the dog will look like at all. That's just a lie--no other way of putting it. I hate to say, but sounds like your neice was taken advantage of. I'm sure that the "breeder" (and I use that term loosely) told her exactly what she wanted to hear so that she could close the sale. |

That is exactly what i was afraid of Well i did get to look over the contract yesterday and it does state that she has 4 days to have the dog vet checked and also temperment checked and that if the vet does not okay the dog or the temperment is not a good one for the family/owner she can return the dog for a full refund so i may have to explain all i have heard from here thanks everyone you have been of great help

I'm sure the dog will be well loved and perfect if she decides to keep it, just so long as she decides to do so knowing in advance this dog will probably NOT look 'just like a Yorkie'.

| Well i never got to get a pic of the pup because it went back to it's original owner because my b-i-l found out about it and got very upset see they just had to put their dog down the day before my niece SNUCK off and bought the puppy so long story short they made her take it back. |
