| Do Loud Sounds Hurt a Yorkie's Ears? While I've known most Yorkies to be afraid of fireworks and other bang-type sounds, I was wondering if anyone knew if loud sounds hurt their ears. Something like loud music, or a loud movie, would that hurt their ears? I'm not asking about a gun going off right next to their ears or anything like that, that would probably cause hearing loss immediately. I was just curious because Yoda never seems to mind when I play a little the music a little loud, or have a movie going with surround sound at a higher than normal volume. He just sits there or lays next to us and doesn't bark or seem annoyed at all. I do know Yorkies have sensitive ears, so of course we hardly ever do this, but sometimes if we take him to a public event (like a fair or something) it can get a bit loud as well. We don't want our little guy to lose his hearing at an older age, that would be so sad, so anything we can do to prevent it would be a good thing. Anyone have any idea regarding this? |

| I think what applies to humans can also apply to Yorkies. It we listen to LOUD music constantly, it can damage our hearing. My mother-in-law is deaf in her left ear because she blew an ear drum (or whatever the technical term is) from listening to a loud walkman when she was a teenager. So I guess anything SUPER CRAZY LOUD can hurt our babies. Is Yoda ok? Is he showing signs of hearing loss? I hope not! How old is he?

| I really don't know. Both of my yorkies seem to be unaffected by noise. We have surround sound also. They didn't mind the fireworks either. Some people said their dogs didn't like the fireworks so maybe every dog is different.

| We had surround sound playing while watching "The Notebook" and Mollie was scared to death when music was playing. But the funny thing is, music from the radio doesn't seem to bother her. So I'm guessing maybe the surround sound was a little louder? |

| Lacey is 3 lbs, hates loud noise, including music, fireworks, TV, yelling, the vacuum. She is much happier when everything is normal, which where I live is quiet. Chloe bites the vacuum but doesn't seem to mind noise, except the fireworks, that did bother both of them. |

| Otis doesn't like sizzling and popping. He will remove himself from the kitchen and watch us from the hallway if we're cooking. He likes his squeak toys, but if the squeaker comes out of the toy, he's scared to death of the squeaker by itself. Strange. He also can't stand trucks and loud motorcycles. I don't know if it hurts his ears as much as startles him. |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Yoda is the same age as Chanel - she doesn't like fireworks or yelling but she LOVES loud music & Thunderstorms - go figure - Cheri didn't mind the fireworks at all this 4th but Chanel my little tough girl hid in the bathroom - I would think if Yoda isn't subjected to continious loud noises his hearing should be fine - I've had some good R&B playing pretty loud - but usually only for short times cause of the girls ears...What a good dad worrying about his boy - |

| I believe that loud noises do bother them. I have lots of kitchen utensils and every so often the pots, pans and lids seem to get stacked to the second floor. I open the cab. door and pull the lazy susan out and they fall. My poor babies nearly die. They do not seem to be affected by loud sounds in the distance AND I have noticed that they seem to be bothered by things that bother their hoomans.. |
