| about neuter? BB is five months old, and i am thinking whether i should get him to neuter or not? he has been bumping his toys/ blankets since he was two months old, however, he start to have lots of erection recently, and i do find it rather disguesting..so i am wondering that would neuter helps him about his erection?? also, i heard that pup can died from neuter so i am kinda worry about it..i dont want to put BB under the risk if the operation is going to kill him.. i am new to this whole neuter thing, i dont know what is the advantage of it? i heard that neuter will shorten the pup's life span, is that true?

| Welcome to Y.T.....I just wanted to say that neutering your yorkie is quite beneficial it reduces the urge to roam for a mate, cuts down on marking around the house, cuts down on aggression towards other male dogs, reduces the risk of testicular cancer, cuts down on humping, etc etc..... I had mine done at 6-8 months old because while they where under I had any retained baby teeth done at the same time......Good luck.....

| You should definitely neuter your dog. Actually, neutering increases a dog's life span. It eliminates the risk of testicular cancer and enlarged prostate, lowers aggression, and usually deters behavioral problems like humping and marking. An intact male is always searching for a female in heat - they can smell one a mile away. He may become an escape artist, get out, and get hit by a car or hurt some other way. Some males will stop eating if a female in heat is close by. The risks from neutering are very very small. It's one of the least invasive surgeries actually. Most complications that arise from surgery comes from the anesthesia, which arise with ANY surgery. Most dogs have no problems with the anesthesia. It's essential you have pre-op bloodwork done on your dog before the surgery to make sure there aren't any underlying health problems that make anesthesia dangerous. If you do that, your dog should be fine. He'll be groggy for about a day afterwards but should be back to his old self in no time.
