| Jacky is teethin? My yorkie, Jacky is 5 1/2 months old, and I saw a little blood on his hide a squirrel..squirrel, I've noticed small amount of blood on his stuffed toys. Is he teething? how do I know? He is starting to bite everything, and its driving me nuts, he bites his bed, I got it patched up and he bites another spot. The toys are all destroyed too He managed to bite a hole in one of the squrrels on the first day. I expect him to bite his toys so its ok. I recently brought him a gorgeous, beutiful bed that for half his cage (2 by 3 ft i think) but I'm scared he'll bite it, will he grow out of it? If so, then hes going to have to wait. theres also some other problems with him that I have to deal with He pisses on the carpet if I let him have total control (no leash) after playing for a while, in fact he can go more then once. I understand that it happens if hes too excited, but this never happens in the basement. ? I want to let him roam the house by himself, but hes obviously not ready yet. this guy also barks like crazy, if he wants u to hold him, he'll bark, if you are ignoring him because you are eating dinner, doin dishes, whatever, he'll bark. Basically, if he wants your attention, he'll bark, sayin NO is useless, he'll just talk back and bark even louder. When he sees anyone in the family, he'll get all excited (waving his tail) but he does not know how to play nice, he nips at our hands even when we say no and give him his toys to play with. We still love him though, he has one of the cutest face of all the yorkies I've ever seen. But will he grow out of it? Is it a puppy thing? |

| Welcome to YorkieTalk! Sounds like normal puppy behavior to me. But, that does not mean that you shouldn't try to help him. Teething - yes, he's teething. Don't worry about the blood. I would put up the pretty new bed for awhile though. Puppy kongs are great for teethers and so are frozen chew toys. I found one on Barkaholics that has a hole in one end and blocked on the other so you can freeze liquid inside it. Gizmo also loved ice cubes on the kitchen floor. It was like a chew toy and ice hockey all in one! lol! Potty Training - He probably does still need to be confined. Maybe an xpen upstairs so he can be closer to you? Yorkies require a lot of patience, consistency and rewards while training. I know, we're still working on it. Biting - Don't let him bite you. Redirect with a chew toy. Barking - we use a penny can for barking, but Gizmo doesn't bark that often. I can just say, "Do I have to get the can?" and he stops now! lol! I only pull out the can when it's serious though. I don't want him to get used to the sound. Excitement - when new people show up, he will get excited. You might try putting a little shirt on him. It works for Gizmo. Gizmo will also settle down after about ten minutes or so. Good luck and welcome!

| Thank god its normal behaviour, lol. I'm VERY scared that anything bad is going to happen to him, I'm actually paranoid, to the point that he's never ran around my house without a leash on. I gave him a chance in my room, unleashed and he goes potty He doesn't seem to be too interested in wires, i don't know if thats the case when he is bored. We have a Kong toy (free, from vet) annd he absolutely hates it He hates rubber toys, loves stuffed animals and ..sqeaky things, ropes are fine too. The penny can doesn't work, he gets scared and barks even louder How long do u think I can let him roam around my house on his own? What about sleeping time? He sleeps in a small kennel, with comfy pillows and doors closed, in case he comes out during the night and goes potty on the carpet. He can last through the whole night without going, I don't know if he can hold it if he doesn't HAVE to. Thanks in advance |
