| Daisy is going in for her first haircut - Any tips? Daiy is going in for her first haircut on Christmas Eve. Her long coat is just so much work keeping nice that we've decided to have it made more manageable. I don't want her coat cut really short. I want it shaped/trimmed to be more manageable but to still be a medium length. Does anyone have any tips on the instructions I should give to the to the groomer? (Besides DO NOT SHAVE HER!) I'd like to bring in a pic to show what I want so if anyone would like to help me out and post pics of your babies with their haircuts it would be of great help. Thanks!

| I'm in the same situation myself! Pixie is going in for her first ever cut on the 10th january, she will be a little over 7 months old. I just love her long hair but i'm finding it hard to manage and i'm grooming her twice a day at least! I too want it a more manageable length but still be able to put her hair in a topknot. I really want her legs, feet and underside cut shorter as that is where she tends to get tangled!

| I learned the hard way. When I do it again with my puppy, I will know to ask for a scissor cut, not the clippers and I will tell her specifically how much I want off all the way around. Just like when we get a haircut. Something else I will do next time is to have a picture that looks like the way I want it to look. That way I'm hoping there will be no surprises. My puppy ended up getting a puppy cut and although I was shocked at first, I do have to say that it is much easier to manage and to keep him clean and brushed. When he grows out to what I consider the perfect length, I am goign to take a picture to have on hand for the groomer the next time. Good luck, Tonya |

| Just tell them how much you want taken off. Show them with your fingers, and state it in inches. This is what I did. I showed them how much to take off and then asked for a teddy bear face.

| Yes, make sure you tell them you want the hair trimmed with the scissors. Otherwise the clippers can only leave the hair up to 2in long....which is pretty short. So for a medium length cut, they'll have to trim with scissors. Be VERY specific with them. Write all your instructions down and bring a picture if you have one. And also tell them the instructions too. Be especially specific with how you want the face trimmed - how long you want it to be, whether or not you want the ears tipped, if they can trim bangs or not, whether or not you want the hair trimmed between the eyes and on the nose or not.

OK, this is all new to me so I have a few questions I want her to be able to see if she doesn't have a bow in her hair but If I get the bangs trimed than will there still be enough left to hold a bow in? If I get the hair trimmed between the eyes & on the nose will that affect holding a bow in? Her ears have never stood up- they are cute & floppy - should I specify not to tip them? I read that pulling ear hairs can be painful for some pups and unless they get infections isn't necessary - should I specify not to do this? Do I need to specify to trim around the anus & paws or is that automatically done? Thanks for your help!

| I tell them exactly what I want done, and I write it down on a piece of paper which I hand to them, so there's no mix up. If you can find a picture in a dog magazine that would help too.

| I find it is always good to go to the groomers with a picture of what you want, that way there won't be any misunderstanding and you won't be disappointed. If someone here can send you a picture of a style you like I think you're set!! Good luck and post pictures of the results! |

| Thank you, thank you, thank you! I just have to say Thank You for all the tips & info. I took Daisy for her appointment this morning with the groomer. I brought photos with me and pulled them out to show what I wanted. I explained that I wanted her coat no shorter than this pic and that she was to be scissor cut, not clipper cut. The gal at the desk said, wait one minute and went back to get the groomer. So I go over the same thing with the groomer to which she replies, "Oh, we don't scissor cut here, only clippers. " So I said, "No one told me that when I called & explained what I wanted and I am not leaving her to be shaved" I picked up my Daisy and left. This was at Petco. Do all Petco's not scissor cut? Is that why so many people go to pick up their pups and they are cut really short? PHEW! Thank goodness I asked you guys what to say. I think you guys may have saved me from spending Xmas Eve at the local police station.
