| How to avoid knots and how to make my puppy's hair shiny and silky Hello yorkie community! I'm new to this, actually, this is my first time ever joining an online forum discussion. Here is my problem, my pup who is 10 months old, seems to get knots around his neck area. Is there a way to avoid these? On top of that, I don't know what kind of products to use to make his hair shiny and silky. Right now, he has about 5-6 inches of hair that looks dull and dry. Help? Thanks! |

| Thanks! I'll look into it. I heard that there's a brush made specifically for yorkies only? |

| I just ordered a Chris Christensen brush recently that is fantastic. It's very gentle on their coats.I have also heard great things about Greyhound combs and plan to order one soon! Welcome to YT! |

| I just finished "detangling" Lucy! I used Johnson's (baby product) hair detangler on the roughest mats, with a metal comb and brush by Chris Christiansen. Works like a charm.

| How to avoid knots and how to make my puppy I also use MinkSheen, www.touchofmink.com. Also, Mane n Tail Moisturizer and Conditioner, you can buy that anywhere. Tricksie will only stay shinny for a few hours. I brush her every day and especially the neck where the collar is.

| Hi! So...which Chris Christiansen brush or comb do you use? I've been using a comb from Lil Pals that is really tiny, but Piper managed to swipe it and has now chewed the handle off (bad Mommy for leaving it out!). Does that company make a small comb (like a couple of inches in width for the amount of teeth)? |

| I use Minksheen shampoo followed by a bit of Cowboy Magic Detangler in the knot prone areas. It gets rid of the knots and prevents them from coming back.

| Turbo does not wear a collar. I don't have a problem detangling Turbo when giving him a bath. What I meant was that he gets knots when he's dried! I'm wondering if it's because he scratches himself, rolls on the floor etc. Therefore, I'm wondering what would be the best technique to detangle him without having to give him a bath. (I'm assuming brushing him everyday with a Chris Christensen or Greyhound brush...or Cowboy Magic Detangler which prevents knots from coming back) On another note, thanks for the Minksheen shampoo advice! Is there a well known conditioner that leaves the hair looking silky? After using conditioner on him, he looks nice and soft for a few hours before the dried cottony texture comes back again. I'm looking for a good product that would make my pup's coat silky for the long run, and not just for a few hours |

| I also use the Greyhound comb and it is good. And, yes, www.touchofmink.com is really good. If you e-mail them, they will send you a free sample so you can get a chance to try it out without paying. They do not even charge S&H. Here is what the Greyhound comb looks like. Try www.petedge.com and type in Greyhound comb.
