| Training puppy as lap dog? Is there a way to work / train puppy to be more of a lap puppy or lap dog? Not that I dont want a active dog but want my Rudy to be more subdued and a lap puppy / dog.. Any suggestions or hints.. just curious and wondering if I am off the wall with this question.. Thanks..

| some just aren't lap dogs. They are first and foremost terriers. I think it has to be in their nature to be subdued and laid back, just my two cents. As my girl is a lap dog and my boy is all over the place and never wants to just lay on me.

| It takes time. He's still a puppy. It all depends on his personality, though. One thing that really made a difference with my Westie was neutering him. Before neuter he would never stay in my lap for long, he was always getting up etc. After neuter he would stay as long as I let him. He really became a snuggle bug!

| I definitely think there is truth to the idea that some dogs just aren't lap dogs. But..also, it takes time. Tucker used to be a crazy, high-energy puppy but as he has matured he has calmed down and loves to snuggle a lot. He still needs his run around and be crazy time every day but he is such a little lovebug the other times...especially at night when he curls up right in my arms as we go to sleep. Adorable! And he lets me know when it's bedtime too because he gets cranky like a toddler and needs me to hold him so he can go to sleep. I'd say around 8 or 9 months is when he started to really get into snuggling. It's funny because just the other night I was wrapping presents at the kitchen table and I was squatting down to get the corners just right and all of a sudden there was a Tucker puppy in my lap! So, long story short, it sometimes just takes a little time. Don't get discouraged!
