| how do i alter this pattern? i want to make some dresses for lily may using this vest pattern and adding a gathered skirt to the bottom. i don't know how to alter the bottom of the vest pattern. do i make the tabs wider and square off the bottom, or do i just square off the bottom, i don't want the dress to start under her armpits. i don't sew much and am totally lost on how to do this. gloria |

I would just square off the bottom and add a ruffle.

My furkids Donating Member | Unfortutnately you are going to have to make one (that probably isn't going to look right) to make one that does. I sew and I can't tell you how many items I've had to toss because I just couldn't get it right the first time.....or the second! I would probably start out with making the vest and attaching a ruffle and see how that looks/fits....then you could make one squaring off the bottom...you may not have to. Adding a ruffle may be all you have to do! Good Luck and let us see how it comes out!

| Just trace another pattern but cut off where it starts to round or try this one http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/ah_pets_oth...513246,00.html looks easy enough. hope it helps. |

| I use that pattern to make dresses for Maggie. I made the bottom (the one around the tummy) just a little longer and then straight across. After that you just cut fabric you'd like to use for the skirt and carefully gather it. I'll include pictures of two different dresses I've made. PM me if you have questions. the Christmas dress has a round skirt and the pink dress has a straight one.
