| Tootsy is in heat and growling all the time? Hi everyone My little Tootsy has gone into heat and has been bleeding for about 10 days now. Last night she started to growl every few minutes. This went on for most of the night!! We had a look around the house to see what could be causing her to growl, but found nothing inside or outside. We checked her nappy to see if it was uncomfortable and in the end decided to remove it, just in case. But this did not stop the growling. We tried cuddling her, rocking her gently, stroking her, but nothing worked. She has been growling on and off all day today and is very restless. She doesn't seem to know what she wants. She is being very picky about her food, too. We just don't know what to do for her. She doesn't appear to be in any pain or discomfort. She is very happy to go for a walk but when she is at home she is restless again. She asks us to play but then soon tires of the game and looks bored. Anyone got any ideas? Perhaps it is just hormonal? Luv Franceen |

| Wow...That sounds unusual. I would suggest that you post your question in the Breeder's Section. I'm sure someone from there will be able to answer your question. |

| She's in her receptive stage right now where...the time of actual breeding. That's probably why she is restless...her instincts and hormones are telling her she needs to be bred. She'll probably be like that for about a week and then she'll start going out of heat.

| Aw, Cathy1811, you must feel hurt. As she was close to you before, it must be because of her hormones. Try not to take it to heart - hard, I know - because she is just not herself and when she is over this, she will be your baby again. If I find out anything I will tell you. Luv Franceen |

| Probably due to hormones and being in heat.

| thats why i really haven't paid her anymind she does growl a whole lot but we have to understand what shes going thru!!!!she has bit me a couple of times but its ok i understand i at this point am really thinking of fixing her but at the same time i would like at least 1 litter from her. i would love to have a house full of them i just adore them but at the same time i am scared with the breeding situation it a big responsibility and scary at the same time i have to see because maybe i'll just get me anoher little girl and just fix them both (i guess??) still thinking if i want to go thru that with her

| Just from my own experience, I think the growling is because she can probably hear male dogs outside nearby.. Probably within the same block. I know that Sunshine was like that... and at night she growls the same way if she hears a neighbors dog. We usually don't hear anything but she races down the stairs and out into the back yard to bark at some little noise she heard. The male dogs will come around while she is in heat and possibly she is hearing them.

| I suppose we just have to be patient (as you are being) and wait for our babies to be themselves again! As MyFairLacy says, it must be hormones as our dogs are not like this normally. I have also been thinking of letting my little girl have one litter but, just like you, I find it a bit scary. Luv Franceen |
