| Puppy School? Wow...January will be here in a minute and my girls will be going to puppy school! I have to admit...I've never taken any of mine to 'school' so what should I expect? It's not a Petsmart class...it's through our vet. What if my girls don't get it and they flunk out How embarrassing would that be?? |

| My last yorkie failed the class.... (the class was offer through some community education group which they held class at some random park with tall grass.... My yorkie was shorter than the grass, all the other dogs wanted sniff her butt and she hated it. When the second class came around, she would not walk or go near the park... so we gave up...) But my Momiji (current yorkie) did go to class and she loved the play time!!! lol She wasn't the best student but she was able to be well socialized and I am very happy that I took her to the school. You and your baby will have fun!!! Good luck. p.s. I enroll Momiji with anther class, "Companion Dog Level One for small dog" and I am very excited!!! |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | don't worry about them flunking. Think of it as a learn and socialization class and not something they pass or fail. I went to a petsmart one but dropped it after 3 classes because i knew more then the trainer.

| My bichon came in third in a class of three. I never took our yorkie. He really listens very well. But the class I had the other in was just about walking on a leash and taking commands. Sit. Stay. Things like that. They are very good now. (sheesh it's been a couple years) Just remember to be consistent. One word commands. Praise when good *treats* It's difficult if there are more than one alpha giving commands tho. Good Luck. and Have fun.

| Puppy school is more for us than it is for them. You learn how to speak puppy! Remember this. Puppies don't fail. People fail their puppies. You will get out of it what you put into it. Make it fun for all! We had a blast in all four of our puppy classes with Gracie.

| oooh puppy classes are fun and even if they "fail" it is good socialization and playtime for them when i had a german shepherd, i took him to class (like a previous poster said, it was more for me than him as i knew he would outweigh me at adult weight) ... he was the youngest puppy there and had "accidents" three weeks in a row (pee and poop!) ... he still passed! i think the trainer just felt bad for us because she saw how hard we were trying lol

| Growing up, my family rescued a cocker spaniel at 1.5 years old. When he was closer to 2, my parents made me take him to obedience class. I think I was 18 at the time, and not very interested in training him. Needless to say, we failed obedience class Out of a class of about 12 dogs, me and one other person was the only one that failed. Now that I'm a lot older (not sure about the wiser part though, lol) obedience is a lot different. I've been taking Bitsy to puppy classes at Petsmart and tomorrow is our last class and she will be tested. I'm not too worried cuz she's doing a lot better than half the class. Prior to taking the class, she knew sit, come, say please. Since taking the classes, she learned down (which I didn't know how to teach on my own), stay, paw, leave it, drop it. I think the classes were great, I learned how to teach her, and Bitsy got to have fun with the socialization and all. Worse comes to worse, even if your puppy fails, you had fun, your puppy had fun and that's all that really matters. It's not like your puppy will be a failure in life, not get a good job or a good future if he failed puppy school, lol.
