| heat age? What age did your females have their first heat? I know many (most) of you have your dogs spayed. I am just curious about what age I should have this done. Did any of your pups have their first heat before 6 months? before having a chance to spay? I want to wait as long as possible but I would like to have it done before she goes into heat. Some people have told me these dogs (especially smaller version) are later than other breeds. Any advice? thanks |

| The average is 6-9 months. However, there are cases of very tiny yorkies having their first heat at 8-13 months old. |

| I was wondering the same thing b/c Lucy just turned 6 mos. on July 1st and I wanted to get her spayed before her first heat also. She actually is scheduled for this friday to be spayed but she had the diarrhea all last night (I'm exhausted as I was up every hour with her) so I might hold off on the spay until I know she is 100% better.

I am planning on doing it at 6 months too but I would like to wait longer. I heard it's a good to wait so you can have those extra baby teeth pulled at the same time. | |

| Sounds like a lot of us are in the same boat. Maggie is almost 5 months old. I do not want to live though her heat cycle. There are WAY TOO MANY male dogs that would eat our doors down. I have been told anywhere from 6 months to a year. I am going to have Maggie done about 71/2 months. Hopefully Mother Nature won't show up before then.

| Pat and I both have had females as old as 14 months and as young as 6 months having first heat cycle. I have the vet X-ray my Yorkies' mouths before we remove any teeth to make sure there is a permanent one underneath. Several years ago, the vet extracted a permanent tooth and Midget had a little space where the tooth should have been. Can you believe it? She needed 10 teeth extracted and had only 1 perm. in the front and it got pulled.. |
