| How many times is it safe to switch foods??? Ok so Tinkerbell is allergic, and she itches alot Well about 2 1/2 weeks ago I took her in to see the vet and she was given a shot and some meds for itching , She got better for a few days and now she is itching again.....I even switched her food to Wellness, Duck and Rice,........I read it was good She has been on this food for about 2 weeks now and no improvement, she was on Nutro Ultra which I now know it's not good ......................My vet called to check on Tinkerbell today and I told him there was no improvement expect for the first week or so and he said to take her in tomorrrow to put her on a special diet and he said I must refrain from giving her ANY treats of other foods HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO DO THAT??? But the main quesiton is this?? Do ya'll think is ok to switch her food again......that would be 3 different types of food in 3 weeks Thanks, Mickie

| You won't normally see an immediate result from a diet switch. It can take 6-8 weeks to see results of a new food.

| I'm a brand new member and have never been in a chat room. I too am having difficulty with diet. I'm a new Yorkie Mom ( 3 months). Jazz is 4 years old and hates Science Diet unless ground meat is added. I talked with her breeder and she uses BARF diet. I can't quite get my mind around raw meat so I have been giving her, several times a day because she is hungry, brown rice, ground turkey (cooked), shredded carrots and snap peas. She likes it ok but I'm worried she's not getting enough. I've only had big, mixed breed dogs that eat anything and I'm a little frightened of my new precious baby. Please help. |

| I have a cat with chronic allergies. I think she's allergic to everything... I've been through several foods with her. I started feeding her Nature's Variety canned and raw rabbit and she's been doing really well on that. I think I switched her to that in May. She was having major hair loss before and she just now if finally not scratching and the hair has grown back pretty well. I'd try to find a grain-free food with only one protein source...something like venison, rabbit, or duck. Find something with a limited amount of ingredients.

| mine are all on nutro natural choice and even the one that has allergies is doing great on it...why do you think it's not a good food? I have seen a big change in mine since they've been on it(a couple mos) and they all love it |

Are you firm on sticking w/ a kibble (vs. homecook or raw)? If so, I would keep her on the Wellness for at least 6 wks. before changing again. Also, get some Eicosaderm (fish oil w/ vitamin E) from Vet America (online) for some skin/coat support. Another option would be to try a "fish kibble" like Orijen 6-Fish - so that she stays away from all meat entirely. If you're willing to homecook or go raw...that's a whole 'nother subject! (but it would probably treat her the best)

| Agreed. It sounds environmental if it started when moving to Texas.

I don't know a lot about Texas but, S. Korea is pretty humid. Have you tried adding a humidifier to her area?

| I think that is exactly what it is............he says to leave her on the Wellness for now and to wait another 4-6 weeks, because she has only been on it for about 2 weeks. It might be enviromental
