| Any suggestions for a habitual over drinker???? OK guys---I need help! I had posted earlier about Biscuit drinking (and peeing) more than usual to the point where he needed to go out all the time. Of course we took him to the vet thinking it was probably a urinary tract infection, but when that came up negative, we had his bloodwork done and tested for everything else that may cause the excessive drinking. Lots of $$$$ later, all tests are negative, thank goodness! So what we have is a behavioral issue with his drinking too much . Has anyone else had this happen to their furkids? Did it ever just go away? We are not going to take his water up, because he is not the only furkid in the house so I hate to limit them all, but are we doomed to taking him out every hour to relieve himself? Any input is appreciated as always!!!! |

| Try using a water bottle and training them all how to use it. Maybe if it is not so readily available with so much water in each lap he will slow down. Just an idea...

| Are you feeding dry food? Feeding dry food means they get no water in their diet so they have to drink a lot more on their own. High protein dry foods mean they'll drink even more water than lower protein dry foods. Maybe if you try canned food instead of dry, the water drinking will slow down since he'll be getting a lot more water in his diet. I feed Lacy a raw diet that has a lot of moisture in it and she doesn't drink a whole lot of water on her own.

| Hmm...that's strange. When I changed Lacy from dry to raw, her water intake went down quite a bit. She did pee more at first but her body quickly adjusted. I hope you can figure something out that will help

| Mine are strictly on hard kibbles(natures natural choice), and none of mine drink much water..My moms dog(he's passed away now), but, he used to drink constantly day and night, he also had food other than dry, I always thought maybe diabetes, but, she had him checked for that, and it was negative..sometimes it seems like they're drinking a lot, but, look how they have to do their tongues to get their water, it takes quite a few slurps like that to really be getting much water |
