| Furbabie First Skinbaby Second I was wondering if anyone has had their Yorkie first and then decided to have children. My husband and I are considering having children soon and I was worried if i would run into any problems with my Carlos. He is such a mommas boy and I was worried about jealousy issues. I have tried to bring him around my sisters young children and he seems to do very well with them. He is 14 weeks now but would be just over a year when we will have a child. Any suggestions?

| I'm in the same situation ... Only my 'pup' is older than yours. We're planning to have a baby next year, Pepper is 1.5 years now. He's a Momma's boy too and I know getting him (all of us) used to the new situations and changes will require work. I will not want him jumping on the baby for example, but also would not allow him get hurt when the baby starts crawling and walking. But I know it is possible for everyone to be safe and happy, it will just require a lot of work... I've always exposed Pepper to kids all ages, and made sure he never got any bad experiences around kids. That's why he loves kids unconditionally now. And is not afraid of them at all. Good luck!

| I would love to hear what people say on this as I was wondering this myself with our first baby being due in 3.5wks and Gypsy being a spoiled Mummy's girl.

| I got a toy poodle after moving out of my parents' house to go to college. I had him for a year before getting married. Then it was 4 more years before we had our first daughter. I sincerely believe that my two girls growing up with a small dog has taught them how to handle small animals. I've really never worried about them treating him (or now our Yorkie) with anything less than loving care. As for how HE reacted to the babies..... for us, it was wonderful. He was definitely a spoiled little mama's baby but he adjusted very easily to the children. For one, although there were family members trying to tell us "oh, don't let that dog lick on that baby", we played it our own way and let him investigate each baby as much as he wanted. He loved those babies so much and was very close to them his whole life. I think you have to be careful, yes, but people have raised dogs around children for eons now. It can be done.... and your children will be all that much healthier for having a good relationship with a dog. It's the kids that have never been around a dog and are scared to death of them because of this that I feel sorry for (I know, I have two close friends whose kids are scared of my little Tatum because they've never experienced a pet before).

Yep we had Brandi and I hate to tell you this, but she hated Amber Invitro....from the time I got pregnant she would not let me hold her anymore, leapt from my lap (where Amber was in my belly), and otherwise had little to do with me anymore. After the baby came and was able to get around it was ON between the two of them. So much so that I eventually got Rockie for Amber after she was older. She felt so rejected by Brandi, and no matter what she did there was no peace between them. But the good news is that Rocky adored Amber from day one. | |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I had Zorro my sweet male Yorkie when I had my dtr. He was such a sweet little guy. The first day I came home from the hospital Ihad my parents bring my dtr in and went right to Zorro who was mad at me for being gone 2 days but we layed on the bed for awhile and he warmed up again. Then my dtr was a premie so she had to wear a knit hat on her head and I had her in my lap on the couch and Zorro came over and snatched it right off her head!! But after that he would alwas sit by her carrier and never ever tried to snap at her or anything. I just taught my dtr to be very gentle with the dog as she was growing up and had no problems.

| That's a sweet story. I can almost see him stealing that cap. Mine weighed 3' 91/2 ounces too. |
