| Please Help I have 2 4 week old puppies...one is crying and seems to be straining. They have been peeing on their own for awhile but it seems like he is trying to poop & can't get it out. The other one just lays around all the time. I read somewhere that they sleep 90% of the day & eat 10%, is he normal? Is there anything I can do for the one that seems constipated?? He sounds miserable. Please help.

| I believe canned pumpkin helps with constipation, but I would just give him a little bit, and see what happens.

| I saw something on this subject just last week. I think someone said a warm water "sitz" bath on their bottom might work, plus a little help from some lubricant.... maybe do a search on the forums.... sorry I can't help more, poor puppy, its so hard when they cry, I hope somebody helps soon....

| Is their mother still licking them down there? If not, you may need to take a moist cotton ball and rub them down there to stimulate their bowels like the mother once did.

| Poor baby The cotton ball is a goog idea but also rub the sides of the belly with the warm cotton ball in a circular motion for about 20 seconds. Momma's lick them all over down there to get them to go, and not just on the anal area. The lubricant is a great ides and you can do this with a thermometer just like taking a temperature. Use a round ended anal thermometer and put a very small amount of K-Y Jelly on the thermometer and that's all that is necessary. Just insert the tip of the thermometer and remove. Yvonne |

| Thank you everyone - unfortunately when my husband took them to the vet this weekend he found a congenital defect in both that wasn't detected when they were in to get their tales & dew claws done. We lost one on Saturday & the other on Sunday.
