Hi folks! This is my very first post. I am looking for a female puppy for a pet for our family. I had a beautiful yorkie for 15 years before she passed 2 years ago. I am just now ready for another dog . My kids have been more than ready! I would be ecstatic if I could surprise them for Christmas. That would be a present to me! If anyone knows of an available female puppy in Northwest NJ area I would do a happy dance all day

Maybe you should try checking the breeders forums... There's always new litters available

Or maybe even a rescue, because there's always a Yorkie looking for a new home

I did look at a few rescues, but it seems that none are even somewhat local. But I will continue searching, morning noon and night!

Welcome to YT! Good Luck searching for a puppy. I do NOT recommend looking at breeders in the newspaper...if you do, be VERY cautious. Most breeders that advertise in the classifieds are backyard breeders, although you can occasionally find a good one. I'd check on the YTCA's website for breeder recommendations. Also check the for sale forum here and you can even post a wanted ad for a yorkie puppy in your area.

As MyFairLacy said, be very careful with buying from a newspaper. Backyard breeders tend to use newspapers to advertise, and around Christmas they tend to have quite a few for sale because people want to give puppies for Christmas.

Look at the breeders here at YT, even if you talk to a breeder who has puppies and they aren't going to be ready until the New Year, you could give your children a picture of the puppies and tell them they're getting one? Just a thought.

It turns out that the local adoption was a scam. when the person replied, they had relocated to Africa on a christian mission and I was to wire the shipping fees ASAP. Sounds fishy , right?! I am still searching for a Christmas puppy, wish me luck.

Yes, most definately a scam! I'm so glad you are staying away from them. Good luck in your search!

That is definitely a huge scam. You will want to make sure you check out the breeder very carefully. Make sure you get a guarantee, health check report, shot record, etc. Don't be afraid to ask questions here!

So true about newspaper and backyard breeder!!!! When I was searching for a pet myself (btw, Chloe is my first dog ever in my entire life!! It took me few years to be ready and finally convince myself that I would be a good mommy!!

) Anyway..back to my story...I went to check out the first dog....the sellers were backyard breeder...they even left their dog outside (like 1lb or less dog outside by itself!!) I actually found Chloe from a lady who was not able to take care of her anymore due to health reason....she had to rehome her.....anyway...good luck with your search!!
