| Coughing for 5 weeks!! X-ray showed nothing! Yoday has been coughing for around 5 weeks. He started at 9 weeks and we got him at 8 weeks. He is on his 4th antiobiotic and has taken a steriod. Also, he is taking something to open his bronchial tubes. The vet did a xray and can not find anything wrong. Yoda's trachea was very sensitive to the vet's rub. The vet also said that there is nothing else he can do if the last medicine does not get rid of the cough!!! After 2 days, he still is coughing. I am so frustrated!!! Other than the cough he is very healthy! __________________ Yoda's proud mom

| Did you see the other vet that your main vet recommended? It may be time to find a specialist.

| I shared my experience with another mom with a coughing baby recently: My pup had a cough that would not go away (the lingering result of kennel cough) and my vet sent me to a respitory specialist here in Chicago. He prescribed a low dose of hyrdocodone (Vicodin) for the cough. He explained that, though Archie's kennel cough virus was cleared up, sometimes dogs can't shake the cough because the cough itself hinders healing of the bronchial tubes and it's kind of a vicious circle. He said it could take several weeks or even months to clear up even with the medication (Archie's cough went on for several months). It took two visits to the specialist over a good month or so, but finally the medicine quieted the cough enough to promote healing. I don't know if this is the case with your baby, but if your vet hasn't tried hydrocodone, it might be worth a try. Good luck!
