| I am afraid.... I am confused and afraid to get Otis neutered, I was too but I don't want to. I'm not sure what to do.. I don't want him to hurt or be uncomfortable. I posted a thread before about breeding him and about him humping everything and some of you suggested getting him neutered, and it would make him a better pet I'm sure. But, I worry about having it done I don't want him mad at me and they have to keep him over night and I am afraid he will be scared by himself. Please help me feel better about this.....

| I would highly suggest that you have him neutered if you aren't planning on breeding him. There is newer technology where they use a laser instead of a scalpel and it reduces their pain by so much. It also helps them to recovery much faster. When my oldest had it done earlier this year he bounced back in no time. I waited too long with him as he is close to five years old. Now he is set in him ways and the things that I would like to break him of. Why do they have to keep him overnight? If you are afraid of this, I would find another vet for the neuter. There are many places where you can bring them in first thing in the morning and pick them up after lunch. Good luck in your decision but it really is best for their health (this eliminates the chance of testicular cancer).

| Iam not really sure if they keep them over night now, seems like when I had my lab done they keep him over nght. Maybe, because the surgery was done in the evening and not early in the day..... I hope everything will be okay. I just worry so much because he is my little baby....

Donating YT 10K Club Member | He'll be fine, mom, and he won't be mad at you. Pretty much once you pick him up from the vet's....he'll have forgotten. I took mine in the early am. He didn't stay the night. Mine was sleepy the evening of but the next day was back to his bouncy self. Unless there is someone at your vet's during the night (there isn't at mine)...I'd tell them I want to pick him up as close to closing as I could get and if they wanted to see him the next day...I'd bring them back in.

| Ginalynn, You may want to do some research and check out some different vets if you don't feel comfortable. There are some really good vets out there.... you just have to do your homework and ask LOTS of questions.

| It's really not a big deal except when it's your own dog. I never had one of my males stay over night after a neuter. I'm sure he'll be fine. My male Chis acted almost perfectly normal after they were neutered and by the next day they were back to normal completely. Spaying is much more invasive than neutering.

| Sookie is right. Samson, Sr. was neutered in the morning and came home later in the day. I was a nervous wreck and afraid he was in pain. WRONG! The first thing he did was jump up onto the sofa. There were no bad after effects. |

| I took Jesse in at 8:30am and was able to pick him up at 5pm. No overnight. He is only 4 days post-neuter and running about like nothing ever happened. |

| Please don't leave your dog there overnight if there is nobody there to watch him. If someone is there, it is fine but not necessary. Ellie came home just over four hours after she was spayed, had a dental and a liver biopsy. I stayed up all night with her but I didn't have to. I was concerned because she could barely move but she was fine. There is no reason a routine neuter with no complications to stay overnight (or a spay for that matter).

| The procedure is done 1000's of times everyday, and is quite routine. He'll be just fine. It's momma who needs some confidence. Both of mine are neutered, and there just fine, and no worse for going through it.

| I took Milo to the vet at midday and picked him up at 7 pm after being neutered and having his canine teeth removed. no overnight, he was only a little sleepy - but the first thing he did when he got home was to ask for his food, and the following day he was as playful and well as always. In fact, after a pair of weeks he seems to be a little bit less hyper - I don't know if it is due to the neuter or to the fact that he's 6 months. |
