| Help! Puppy still coughing!!!!!! We got Yoda when he was 8 weeks! Around 9 weeks, he started coughing. He has had three different antiobiotics. He just finished his last one this am. He is still coughing!!!!!!!!!! The vet has mentioned kennel cough, cold, tonsilitis, and pneumonia. They are not sure what it is. Has anyone had a dog to cough for this long? I am frustated that he can not get well!!!!

| Hi Yoda's Mom: Three days after getting my baby she had a really bad cough and I took her into the vet and he told me it was kennel cough. He recommeded that I give her 5 days worth of shots as that will clear up the cough faster instead of using antibiotics. Luckly, my friend is the vet assistant so she wdropped by my house to give my baby her shots. She stopped coughing after the shots were given and hasnt't since! Why don't you try asking for a more invasive course of action toward her cough because maybe the antibiotics to take home isnt working. Hope he is okay now!!

| I'd ask the vet to treat him/her for kennel cough. I don't think being on antibotics should result in him still coughing.

| Well, I think all the vets do is give antiobiotics for Kennel cough. Thats just to keep it from turning into pneumonia or getting another infection. I think Kennel cough has to run its course. They want to do an xray, but I am tired of paying so much money. Especially since nothing they have done is helping! He was so sore from his 9 and 12 week shots, I hate to give him shots. If it would help better than oral antiobiotics, I am very willing to get the shots!

| My foxxy came to me at 15 weeks with Kennel cough. Treated her right away...kennel cough can last up to 30 days..she was still coughing a little even after she'd finished her medicine but it did finally go away.

| Nebulizer My Joy came to me with kennel cough. The breeder told me she might have it and if that was the case to contact her. We did and they took Joy back and started her on antibiotics but also gave her 2 nebulizer treatments a day. They had a crate set up just for this purpose. The medicine was put into a machine and the mist was pumped into the crate so she was breathing the treatment into her system for about 15 minutes twice a day. It really worked well. Of course it was terrible to leave her again after only having her a few days but it was well worth it in the end. Because the breeder said she knew Joy had it when she went home with us they didn't charge us anything for the medicine, treatments or the stay. You might want to check on the nebulizer treatments. Hope something works for your baby. I know it is hard on both of you. |
