| My Sophie Yells Back at Me!!!! Does anyone else's dog do this. The yesterday my husband and I are hanging out in the living room. All of a sudden Sophie goes upstairs usually she's always where we are. So I wait a minute and sneak up the stairs well lo and behold she's in the guest bathroom trying to get the toilet paper out of the wastebasket. Well I startled her by scolding "What are you doing" she must have jumped 2 ft up in the air then took off like a bullet. She then start running back and forth then lays there and barks. I don't know how to explain it not a regular doorbell ringing bark. It's a continual bark and growl with her mouth opening and closing like she trying to say something. It's like she's yelling at me. It sounds like she's telling me off. Do I sound crazy am I the only one this happens to? |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | no, some dogs do like to talk back when your scolding them. if this happens i usually put them in a time out because the situation usually gets out of hand and the dog then thinks its a game. You yell at the dog, the dog "yells" back at you, you get frustrated that the dog isn't listening so you yell more and the dog 'yells'. then the dog just thinks your play so he'll yell and run around or play keep away. So before it escalates i usually do a 5 minute time out for the pup.

| Nope, not just you. Jamie is SUPER sassy. If I could understand what he was saying sometimes I would probably have to wash his mouth out with soap. Oh and he grumbles (very quiet growl bark) when he walks away from me too. Its like he saying "Stupid mom. She doesn't even know what she's talking about!" LOL!

| Coco does the same. Especially when we've been out. She really lets us have it when we get home. Coffee on the other hand, is only too pleased to see us and he never talks back, A true gentleman!

| Oh yes, Hoku does the same thing too - talks back and stomps her feet! She gets a time-out for it and has to listen to the "Look here, girlie, I'm the momma and you're the baby" lecture - LOL!

| Oh my God, I love this. Sawyer talks back to me all the time, and if he wants something and i don't know what right away, he goes bonkers! my husband and I both wish we spoke yorkie ( or maybe not ). I guess this is just another yorkie trait, they really are a breed alone.
