| Should I be using a diaper? What do you guys think about putting a diaper on a puppy? Mylo is 10 weeks old and does go potty outside but has a few accidents here and there. I would put the diaper on and just take it off every half hour and take him outside. Becasue of the color of my carpet, I find it hard to see where he has went pee pee unless I step in it . I just don't want to be living in a HUGE litter box!! Do you think it will mess up the potty training? Thanks Jen |

| I don't think the diaper would hurt at all. I think it would be unpleasant to have a diaper on, and maybe speed up the process of training.

| Get a belly band and put a sanitary napkin in it (it has to be a femanine pad, tampons don't work ). I personally don't like the bands from pet stores, the material is too rough and the elastic can pinch. I'm sure there is someone on here, close to you, that makes some good quiality soft ones. I've used this on a few boys I've trained, it's not a pleasant experience for them and they do learn quickly. Alana

| Belly Bands... They are awesome! I used to have a male yorkie when I bred, and since my dogs were allowed to run around the house, because they were pets as much as for breeding, I found it hard to keep my male from wanting to pee everywhere. So, I did do research on it, and belly bands are not bad for male dogs. He actually quit doing it after about a month, because he didn't like the wetness he felt after doing it. I know there are ladies on here that handmake them. I had the best of luck with a seller on ebay who sold them for $5 a piece which was the BEST price I've ever gotten and she had stylish ones also. Different prints. You just have to measure around your baby's belly and give her the measurements. You can buy liners for them from petstores, but that's expensive also. So, I used ultra thin maxi pads, no wings. lol They work great. The best thing with these belly bands, is that they are washable, so buy a few, and you can keep reusing them. They work GREAT! Best of luck! |

| Im not sure, but do any of you think that maybe a diaper SLOWS DOWN the potty training process? It will only reinforce that he can go anytime, anywhere because the diaper allows him that "freedom." You are probably doing the opposite of training. I would think that it's like babies: when we want them potty trained, the diaper comes off and they have to hold it or they face the consequences of wet clothes or a wet bed. I guess what I'm saying is: if you can't supervise your puppy while he's "loose" in the house, maybe you can keep him in a confined area where he should learn to "hold it." Whether it be a crate or in a play/x-pen, it's one of the ways he's going to build a stronger hold on his bladder. I'm sure the diaper method works well too, so I'm only basing my reply on theory...sorry if I'm wrong! Anyway, good luck!!! |

| I understand your frustration... When Meka was that age I was going to do the same thing. However, when I went to buy em' the lady in the pet store told me that it can confuse them. That trying to put a diaper over the problem can sometimes make it worse. You really do just have to be very persistant and it will work. Something to keep in mind is that you cant just let him run all over your house right now. He should be near you at all times and not be able to roam too far from you. Reason is because you need to be helping him right now. He's not going to want to stop playing or being with you to go potty. So, you need to be looking for the signs. If you notice him get up and start sniffing around... you should take him out.... If its been 30-45 min since he's been feed... you should take him out... if hes drank water.... take him out after 15 min or so... Meka is trained to go on both potty pads and outside and she 8 mo. We started training with pee pads when we got her at 9 wks... It works for us Hope this helps

| Thanks so much for answering my question. I do have Mylo with me alot but he likes to wonder and play with his brother every once in a while. I watch him the best I can but its almost like he knows when I am not looking .It's really funny but the last 2 days he has been really attached to me. He follows me everywhere but I love it LOL. Oh, I got Mylo's ears to stand and I only had them taped for 2 days. He looks so cute!!! Thanks for all your help. Jen |
