| Yoda gained 3 pds. in 3 weeks? He went from 2.5 pds. at 9 weeks to 5.5 pds. at 12 weeks! Is this normal?

| That's a lot of weight to gain in that amount of time. When I got Betty, she supposedly was 12 weeks old and weighed 2 1/4 lb. Three weeks later, at 15 weeks, she weighed 4 lbs! Now, she is 13 months old and weighs right around 10 lbs. I would guess that your baby will not be too small!

| That is a pretty quick weight gain. What are you feeding?

| If the amount of food hasn't changed then I'd have the thyroid checked. My Zada is on meds for that. She had a rapid weight gain and seemed a little too lethargic so I had her checked. |

| Hmm, I can't answer your question but I hope someone can! That seems like a lot of weight to gain in that amount of time.

| If he's going to be large yorkie then I'd say it is normal. Think how much a larger breed puppy gains...the grow like crazy. So if your puppy is going to end up being 12-15lbs or more, then I can see him growing that fast.

| Sorry to say but even one pound in that period of time would be A LOT for a yorkie that age. Were you there when he was weighed both time? I know at the vet if they use the big scale it can be pretty far off even the same day. Also, does he actually feel that much bigger or did you just bearly bring him home? Hopefully there isn't anything seriously wrong with him. Last edited by larsensyorkies; 11-29-2007 at 06:14 PM. |

| I would really like to know what kind of food you're feeding him. He gained quite a bit of weight. |

| Science Diet. I give him very small pieces of treats for rewards.

| i have to wonder if he was not weighed right. my vet once told me that maggie had gained over 2 lbs in 2 weeks. i about died. we got out the infant scale and weighed her again and it was WAAAY different. she had only gained a few ounces. that just seems like a lot of weight gain for such a short period of time.
