| Is My Yorkie Going to Forget Me? A few people I know have cautioned me that Stewie is going to forget who I am if I leave him for a month in December while I go to Beijing. Do you think this is true? I am not sure who is going to watch him during that time (I've had a dozen offers of people who want to dogsit, luckily), but I don't want him to think that they are his new "momma"! I'm also afraid that he is going to regress on his housebreaking (he's pretty much housebroken at 8 mos) if he is not in my house for this time. Any advice? This is really stressing me out.

| Stewie won't forget you...not in a million years! I used to babysit my sister's yorkie, Rhett Butler. She and her husband traveled a lot...usually for 1 or 2 weeks at a time, but once they were gone for a month...maybe it was a little longer than a month. He would always sense when they were going to be home and he'd be soooo excited and happy to see them. As for who you get to babysit...get someone whom you are close to and Stewie sees often and likes. I know it's going to be hard on you being away from him, but I promise you...he'll never forget you and will be thinking of you while you're away! |

| Kristy - oh, how I can understand your concern!! I've been through this so many times in the past mainly with our 4 previous dogs when every year, Paul and myself used to travel to Australia and various other countries for 6 wks every time. We were fortunate as my son was living at home then. Now, I won't pretend that you are not going to worry and miss little Stewie like crazy, no matter who is looking after him but forget you..?!! NO WAY!! Ours used to look a bit confused when we got back maybe but it just took all of 1 second for them to run to us yelling their heads off! It's important to really go into detail with whoever is minding them re his housetraining so that his little routine doesn't vary much from yours and you shouldn't have much of a problem at all. Have a truly wonderful time and I was going to say "don't worry" but I won't bother saying that lol!! Ana xx ps I always left an item of my clothing for them and it is often a comfort to them if you do that. |

| We left Ayrwen for 11 days in at kennel when we went to California. She was 6 months old. We had got her when she was 8 weeks. She gave us the most pitiful look when we left her. She was so happy to she us when we got back. I will never leave her like that again. She could not run to us fast enough when they put on the floor. They do not forget the one that loves them and cares for them.

Donating YT 7000 Club Member | don't worry he won't forget you!! he's going to be really happy when you come home!! a few days before you leave sleep with an old towel or something. then when you drop stewie off leave the towel with him. that way it will smell like you and he won't be too worried. enjoy your trip and don't worry about it!

| No Way!!! Simon and Hallie have never forgotten my mom! We only see her about once every month or 2 now and each time they remember her and love her and kiss her to death!!! He will not forget you, they are too smart and you are his mommy!! I can certainly understand your concern though, I would be so worried too! |

| That is the silliest thing I have ever heard! Why would somebody tell you that! He might regress a little in potty training, afterall new house, new routine. But it won't take him long to adjust right back. Dogs never forget who they love. |

| HE WILL NOT FORGET HIS MOMMY! He will form a bond with whoever is keeping him and that is what you want him to do..But, as someone else said, leave detailed instructions. One thing I point out is..Leave all of his medical records AND a notarized authorization for vet treatment and include the fact that you will be responsible for any vet bills-either reimburse the caregiver or leave your credit card # if the vet will be the one you use regularly..This is very important in my book... Leaving articles of clothing or such--I suggest you get several baby blankets and cut them in half or smaller and sleep with them so your smell is on them.. Ask the caregiver not to wash them unless they get soiled. Have a great trip and if you do all the planning ahead of time you can be a little more at ease. Also, maybe you could arrange a sleepover just to try out the arrangement.. |

| Thanks to everyone for the responses. His schedule comes so naturally now that I will really have to take care to write down proper instructions for him while I'm gone You have all brought up some great points that I probably wouldn't have remembered. I'm sure whomever watches him will think I am crazy for sleeping with a blanket in order to comfort him, but that's too bad A yorkie mom's gotta do what a yorkie mom's gotta do.

| Kristy ... Stewie won't forget you!! Yorkies, I have found, are kinda like elephants ... they never forget! Potty training, maybe ... people, never! Although we have never left Toto overnight, she has other people in her life that she loves ... i.e. our granddaughter has a room in our home [in Alabama] and sleeps over when we are there. Toto adores her and if she even hears Kayla's name she gets excited!! So don't ever think that Stewie will forget you ... he won't!!

| I believe that animals have very good memories about certain things, especially who their owners are. When I was in college I was only able to see my horse a handful times a year. She always remembered who I was. Stewie will definitely remember you. As far as the potty training, December is a ways off yet, so it will be even more ingrained in him by them. |
