| My Boy is Becoming A Man Well my boy is about 10 months now and his hair is getting about an inch off the ground, the wife and i are growing it out cuz thats one of the reasons i love the yorkies ya know? He is the most energetic little guy these days except when he is around mommy he loves to snuggle and chew on his bullstick, finally something he loves to chew on and great for his teeth. Last we had him weighed he was about 3.5-4 pounds, not sure but he is a healthy guy. although i did have a question. now as human boys do as i did they go through their whole puberty stage, ya rub the belly for more than 3 seconds he's ready for blastoff, same when he wakes up as i would expect cuz he is a growing boy, he lifts his leg when he pees sometimes now and he only marks when he is at the park...which i have taught him the past couple months is the only acceptable place to mark even though i am preparing for troubles on that front when we goto my parents for christmas but at this point he has been mark free in the house. so tell me...what should i expect next in a yorkie male. thank you and ill have to post a pic some time of him since we just started him on vellus hair care products he looks just amazing. |

| The wife and I never intend on breeding him but at the same time neutering him just seems wrong...I personally worry about him sticking another female while im not looking but that is why someone i always watching him when he is around other dogs. I would love not to but if he has any problems then we will. btw could i get info on the range in ages a boy should be neutered, it would be appreciated. Again id like not to but if its absolutely necessary then ill have to. |

I saw someone write something like this once: would you rather be able to have sex, want to have sex, and NEVER be able to have sex (meaning you never get fulfill that urge) OR would you rather not feel the urge to have sex at all?

| It's never too late and he's still young so now is the perfect time to neuter him. He has already started lifting his leg so that probably won't change and he may still mark some since he's already started that behavior. But with some training, he may quit marking all together after being neutered.

| One small visiting the relatives advice: Belly band on your little guy because he will mark unknown territory. You will be able to relax and he can play without being in trouble. Good luck. Warmly, Deborah

| Q for You Ok so here is a question. Now obviously i can see how many owners would see marking as a bad bad thing for whatever reason but should he continue marking should i discourage it or i mean seriously...as long as he does it outside in the appropriate places i see no harm but id just like to hear others views on this. |

| I agree with everything My Fair Lacy said. By neutering him now, you will not have to deal with the undesirable traits unneutered male dogs often start liking marking indoors. Once they start, often neutering doesn't stop it. He will also be much more pleasant to live with. If there is a female in heat nearby he will whine and carry on, plus you will always have to worry about him getting out. A male determined to get at a female can become an escape artist. He will be a much healthier, happier pet if you get him neutered. |

| If you're not going to breed, I suggest neutering..... We've had lots of male dogs, all neutered at 6 mos or whenever we got them. It protects their health as well as inhibits bad behavior. Our older dog (10 years old) marks outside only. He lifted his leg one time at my mom's house, got a good scolding, and has never done it since. Coby (9 months old) has lifted his leg only twice outside so far (once falling into the tree and once falling away from the tree, so he hasn't even tried it again yet). I don't know if it's a 6 month trait or a neutering trait, but all my pups have calmed down after neutering. They still have tons of puppy energy, but not that manic craziness.
