| Baby Hair vs. Adult Hair Hello All! Is there really a difference between adult hair and puppy hair? I read a post recently that said they had to shave the hair off of their puppy because the adult hair started to come in. Do they have different hair as an adult? Shave it off? That scares me. I realize that the color changes, but I'm more wondering about the texture. Thanks everyone! |

| Sometimes the puppy hair is more thicker and cottony and the adult hair that comes in later is more straighter and silkier

| Isnt it all the same hair? As the puppy grows, the black is at the end of the hair strand and the blue is right behind it on the same strand. Thats why when the hair grows, the adult has darker hair at the bottom, towards the floor than at the top of his back. The darker hair at the bottom is the puppy coat. While they are pups, the black hair is slightly waviy because its short. The texture is sometimes a little different, but silky. My pups dont seem to have easily matted, cottony puppy coats anyway. |

| coats Puppy coat can be much finer in texture..much like the difference in a human childs hair and an adult...some owners have Yorkies with a soft/cotton coat that mats and they need to clip the puppy coat shorter to remove mats..a silk coat is much easier to maintain... |

Donating YT 11K Club Member | The baby hair will grow out and you will see the diff. bet. that and the adult hair. The adult hair grows in the texture it will be forever, the puppy hair is more flufflier and ticker sometimes.

| When I had Penny's shaved off it went from thick and curly to straight and shiny. It looked very pretty. It was steel blue with a beautiful gold.

| with the experience from my two yorkies, i would have to say that their puppy hair was really thick and matted. after shaving them at around 16 weeks their hair was awesome, straight and easy to brush! |
