| Still uncertained I have been reading the yorkie talk for a while, I have been going back and forth trying to decide if a yorkie is what I want or a poodle, which I have had before. When I read about the yorkie, I read about being stuborn, a will of their own, of course I do know you can train, but just wondering about the managing of them. I have had two toy poodles, and have had dogs all of our married life, which is 39 years, with 3 children, but now, all kids are grown and living away, I have two grandchildren, 4 &1, who live in Atlanta, I am in Fla. so time is not a problem for me, I don't work, so giving the love and care is NO problem. just wanting thoughts, of course I realized I am on a yorkie forum, and everyone loves their babies, as I would too! Just would like some feedback. Hope this doesn't sound silly. thanks in advance for input. Sandie |

| Of course everyone has a favorite breed of dog. I love all dogs, each has it's own unique personality no matter what the breed. What do I love about yorkies? I don't see them as stubborn, more like obsessive. Mine are very sweet and they seem to communicate well with me. I enjoy caring for dogs, brushing and bathing, and they do need a lot of care. They seem overloaded with personality, much more than my poodle mix or my chi's. Mine are curious and smart. You can't bring a bag in the house and I can no longer have any stuffed animals around because my yorkies just know there's something in the bag for them and any stuffed toy is THEIRS. You would not regret getting a yorkie, that's for certain. Good luck on whatever you decide. |

| I have had a poodle before too and I loved her very much. She was wonderful but I can say that if I had to choose it would be the yorkie. Murfee has been no trouble at all. I also was at home...like you married for 39 years with 3 grown kids....so training him was NO trouble at all. We travel with him and he is wonderful in the truck and camper....doesn't bark much, adjusts to where we are, is easy to take shopping and sightseeing. He does pout...but it is so cute. He is stubborn...but always comes around. He is very devoted to mommy but loves daddy and my kids and grandkids. Good luck whatever you decide. Oh and welcome to YT

| I would say if you don't want a dog that is stubborn, could be hard to train and is queen of the universe (females) then I would not get a Yorkie. There is something very special about this breed though. They have a very unique personality. Just look at this forum. There are over 20,000 members for a reason. It does sound like you live the perfect lifestyle for a Yorkie. Some Yorkies are easily trained but some have "issues" that keep a person very busy. You may have to deal with barking, hating their crate, pottying in the house and picky eating.

| When i got Layla i was also worried about all of their "unique personality traits" but i'm a big believer that ANY dog can be stubborn, yappy... ect... it's all about the training.... and since you've had a toy breed before you know their special quirks but like someone said.. there are not over 20000 members on here for no reason! Having had layla for almost 2 years... i'll never own another breed.... Yorkies are amazing at stealing your heart when you aren't looking... |

| I have both and have to say my poodle was a lot easier to train, and a lot more obiedent, but having said that I'd still get another yorkie. I like their feisty personalities.

| poodles All my great uncles have poodles... as does my mother in law. They are w/ only older people and occ. grandchildren... they are mean... every last one of them. I have never seen a mean yorkie. Sorry ... just my experience... of course they all think they are nice... but they chase you...nip at you... bite babies... I do like standard poodles though... better personalities! |

| I grew up with miniature poodles and love the breed dearly. But if I was forced to make a choice between the two breeds, I too would lean towards a Yorkie. I too am a fan of their fiesty and playful character. Don't get me wrong, poodles are very smart and playful too but a Yorkie just seems to find a way to entertain themselves which in turn entertains us. They definitely are little terriers! PS: My three yorkies don't bark as nearly as much as any of my poodles did. The barking/yapping just varies from one dog to another. Fortunately my three are not yappers - phew.... I also think caring for their coats is much easier with a Yorkie than a Poodle. Which ever breed you choose you will get the perfect companion for you! I'm just so impressed that you are taking this seriously to come here to learn more about the breed! Kudos to you my friend!

| mine really are not stubborn. My male isn't at all, he is so sweet and always wants to please. My female is only stubborn about one thing - sometimes she does not want to come in the house - she loves to be outside & if I need to go to work sometimes I have to go out and pick her up, but this is so rare
