| How hard is it? I've never owned a male dog before and I am going to look at some male Yorkie pups on Wednesday, I'll admit it, I'm nervous. I'm worried about the training issues and him peeing on our things. Since we have a small child I'm also worried not that the pup and my son wont get along but that the pup may have accidents on his toys. Is this a common fear with "new" puppy owners. Like I said in other posts, I got Tilly when she was three. She wasn't potty broke so I had to start fresh with her. I really want a new puppy and these males are great quality at great prices, should I hold off for a female? I also don't want to hurt the breeders feelings. If I go to see the pups she may think they aren't to my standards, that's not it, I don't want any hurt feelings. I don't want her upset but I also don't want to bring in a puppy and not be satisfied. I feel like a terrible mommy! I've never ever had second thoughts on a Yorkie before.

| I felt the same way about not wanting to hurt breeders' feelings when I was looking at puppies. But you need to remember that you are the one making the financial and emotional lifetime commitment to the puppy, so you have the right to wait until the right one comes along. I'm sure the breeder would understand your desire for a female, thats perfectly fair. The decision to bring in a male versus a female is all yours! If you neuter a boy early, I don't think marking will be an issue. All of the other issues you mentioned would still be there if you got a female.

| I also wanted a sister for Coco, but the breeder only had boys at the time. She assured me that if I had him nuetered as soon as he started lifting his leg all would be fine. I took Coffee and have never regretted it. The first time he lifted his leg (about 5 months) I had him "done". he never lifts his leg at home, only on trees outside my property, when out or on holiday. He was also easier to potty train than Coco. She still has accidents now and again. They are both three. He is the sweetest chap in the world, so sensitive and a mommas boy. I wouldn't change him for the world.

| If you get them neutered before they ever start lifting their legs, they shouldn't start..Fritz is the same way as someone else stated, he squats(at age 2 1/2) to pee inside , but when he goes outside, there is one little bush he just has to lift his leg on..he actually probably does better on the pee pads than my girls, as he gets right in the middle of it to pee, to where sometimes they pee on the edge. from what I've seen with the boys, they are more like a little boy, to where the girls aren't as wild, the boys seem to have to be checking things out, full of pee and vinegar...lol, but, when they outgrow it, they tend to be very loveable..Fritz is really a sweet little cuddler.. |

| I got my male, Buddy, at 3 months old...he is now 1 year old. He NEVER once marked anything in our house. He was very easy to potty train. He is the most lovable furbaby ever (don't we all say that? lol). He is like sweetr72 said....he is happy as long as he is attached somewhere to me.....my leg, my foot, my elbow, etc!!! Did I say how much I LOVE my little boy? good luck!!!!!!

| Cody is 11 months and hasn't marked in the house, he just started to lift his leg outside. IMO I don't think you will have a problem as long as there is not a female in heat around. You could also put a belly band on him just in case

| I have two boys, when I got one he was already started on piddle pad from day one at the breeders, and I have one that was not trained at all...The one that was started on the pad has been no problem, he knew how to use it as soon as I brought him home, he will go outside if I take him out, but when the weather is bad he just uses the pad...the one not trained, he is still going in the house and it has been months....I would absolutely get a piddle pad trained one if that's your preference in the future.... As for the marking, it was a problem til they where fixed at about 6 months, then it stopped....

| Slade was neutered when he was 4 months old and I have never had any problem with him lifting his leg! He also hasn't been too impossible to train. I keep a belly band on him when we are in the house just in case, but lately he hasn't needed it.

| My boys are soooo more affectionate.....I love the girl aspect....But the boys are great.....They have never marked anything..... You can get them neutered as early as 4 months and that should settle that issue.....I would just go to the breeders and visit with the pups....If one catches your eye...Then go from there....I am sure she would understand if you don't take one....She hopefully only wants the best for her pups...And if a connection was not made, then better you know now than later...But I think you will really like having a boy.... ALso, with having a 3 yr old already, the pup usually will follow the 3 yr so that will help too in potty training....

| I checked with the little boy and girl I just got..I gave the boy to my son and his fiance, as I could only keep one, and he wanted the boy..The vet said with them being so small, he liked to do it between 5-6 mos. but, if they started lifting their legs before that, he could do it earlier..but, really would rather wait. They have to spay and neuter them at 6 weeks when they're at the humane society, but, he really doesn't like to do it that early.. |

| I know, but unfortunately as soon as they get them at the humane society here, they take them right away and have them spayed/neutered, then, they're taken back to the humane society where they try and sell them..it's sad, but, that's the way it has to be done...by the time of 8 mos. he may start lifting his leg...I had Fritz neutered at 5 1/2 mos. he was 4 1/2 lbs at the time and did well with the surgery..we took him in at 8:00 and I picked him back up at 4:00 |
