help. Looking for another pup guys I went to see a pup fon the same breeder, and the male she has at 4 weeks is 1.6lbs. And the mother was 8 PBS with milk still and 4 weeks after birth. Do you think the pup will be a larger side? I' don't want a tiny pup, but I want him to be closer to rocky, 4-5 PBS

PBS is a spelling mistake. Here is the pup, I think 1.6 lbs at 4 weeks is a bit much. He does look very cute.

He will also slow down once completely weaned. My guys are seven weeks old now and that is about what they weigh. i expect mine to be in the four to four and a half range. but no one ever really knows. Lots of things go into play here.

At four weeks it is way too early to determine the adult size. Sometimes pups are late bloomers and have growth spurts a little later in puppyhood. Breeding and genetics is a very complicated and unsure science. You need to look at the this pup's parents, his siblings, and siblings from previous litters from both the sire and the dam. And even with all that information, he will grow at his own rate and to the adult size that has been determined by the genes he inherited from his parents. It sounds like you have a GREAT plan to go back and look at the pups at about 8 weeks. btw.... CONGRATULATIONS on your new addition! Last edited by chattiesmom; 11-18-2007 at 05:49 AM.

Thanks guys. yes i think I will go back at 6 weeks. see how the little dude develops. Thing is, when i found Rocky at the same breeder, i was on fire for him and i know he was for sure mine. With this pup I am not that sure. But like i said its too early, they all look like little potatoes at 4 weeks. Mother looked ok, a little on big side. BONUS. this pups father is the dad of my Rocky. And this male pup looks a bit smaller than female pups. Mother was really friendly and happy, even when i was picking up the pups, but I gave her plenty of hugs to let her know I am gentle with her kids. I am so confused at this point, I hater when I am not sure about something.

| Now he is a looker..... very very cute... I will say this too.... the one we bought my mom, the breeder FEEDS THEM!!! I mean FEEDS THEM!!! I knew when I picker her up she sould not end up being BIG like she was... she was all belly... She does this because she does ship them and she has to travel 3 hrs to the closest airport. She wants to make sure they are FED for travel and such. Anyways... that was all I wanted to say... CONFUSED... I seemed to have just rambled away.. Wanted to add one more time... I LOVE his little front legs and chest.... ya just wanna pick'eem up and hug'eem real tight.
