| Need advice When is it ok to take the yorkie for a walk? Is there an exact time he is ready to take for a walk? He's had 2 sets of shots already. I don't want him to get sick or anything. Also, when is he ready to sleep in the bedroom without a cage? He is pretty good about peeing and pooping on the newspaper in the living room. Should I put the newspaper in the bedroom, and slowly inch it away from the door everynight? or just be consistent and leave the paper in the living room. He gets lonely at night when I leave him in his pen. But then I leave play with him in the morning. But then have to leave to go to work. And he gets lonely when I'm at work. Thats why I sort of want him to sleep in the bedroom so he doesn't get lonely.

| Here in UK they can go out after the second vaccinations but I usually keep them away from "popular" doggy areas for a couple more weeks just to be sure. I've never used a crate over night mine have always slept with us and we have put paper down for them to use. |

| No...I would absolutely not bring him out with only 2 sets of shots...my breeder said NO!!!..and my vet did not allow Maximus out till 1 week after his last set (so that the vaccinations have taken effect)...you can Carry your baby but as far as puting them on the ground I would say no..they are at risk of getting parvo.. (from grass/ground where previous dogs ,ay have been) as well as getting sick from arious other things out there...it is much easier to prevent then cure..so I would err on the side of caution!!! what has your vet and breeder recommended???

| being outside I've been wondering the same thing. Dash is 4 mo. old and has had 3 out of 4 sets of shots. I want to be able to take him out with me but don't want to risk anything. Do you mean that they don't need to be outside AT ALL or just interacting with other dogs? I'm kind of confused on this subject - any advice would be great! |

| Not on the ground..and/or interacting...you can keep them in a carrier..but limit the people that touch and or have contact with them...it's so worth the wait for piece of mind....trust me..Maximus got sick in between (from the vets)..and so I had to wait even longer because he couldn't get the vaccines while being sick!!

| Olivia just got her 16 week shots and I've kept her in until she was done. Until your baby has had all of his or her shots, I would wait just to be safe. As someone else said- it's easier to prevent than cure! It's taken Olivia quite a while to get used to wearing her harness and she still is definitely not fond of the leash. (She sits right down when I put it on her.) Until the shots are complete, I would work on getting your puppy used to the harness, the leash, and walking with both around the house. You have years and years worth of walks ahead of you- I would wait until it's completely safe. If your puppy is still young, I would make sure that you have a matress pad if you plan to have him sleep with you. Don't get frusterated with messes on the bed, either- he might be too young to hold it at times. Depending on his size, I would also think about how deeply you sleep- God forbid you roll onto him in the middle of the night. You also need to be careful that he isn't flung off the bed- if he's sitting on the edge, you could accidentally knock him on the floor by adjusting the covers, moving, etc. Some babies do well right from the start on the bed. Olivia tends to go toward the edge and I have a cat that provokes her to play mid-night, so I'm waiting until she's a little bigger. She doesn't mind sleeping in her crate. If you play with your baby and allow him to run around the house for a few hours before bedtime, he should be ready to go to sleep when you put him in there. Olivia has to stay in a crate while I'm at work, but I have her out for about 8.5-9 hours a day while I'm home. (Before work, during lunch, after work) They can't play 24 hours a day, so don't feel guilty about leaving him during work or having him sleep in a crate at night- they need sleep. Your puppy can't tell time, and if he's sleeping the whole time you're sleeping or while you're at work, he won't know how long he's been left alone. I mean, it's not okay to leave him "caged" for 24 hours a day, but he also can't tell time and doesn't know if he's been sleeping for an hour or 6 hours. |

| Ha!!!...I didn't even see the bed post..lol, but I am probably not the best to give advice here..Maximus was never crated (he has one)..but I always leave it open..I bought him a fleece round bed to sleep in which I put next to the bed and put a wee wee pad in the corner of the bedroom...he slept in there for a couple of weeks then he got sick and I made the mistake of letting him sleep with me..NOW it is his bed...lol, he wakes us ip if he needs to go middle of the night otherwise he sleeps till 5:48..he pees and then comes back to bed for another 30-40 minutes...that 4 lb baby TELLS us where to sleep...lol..we are left with a tiny corner..lol

| My vet told me it was a myth that you couldn't take them out until they had ALL their shots. She told me as long as you keep them away from areas where there are a lot of dogs like dog parks, etc they will be fine. She said besides the shots they are still working on some of their mother's immune systems. So take your dog out and enjoy.

| I don't know about that ..this is what my vet has said and I also got from a Parvo WEBSITE "Puppies receive antibodies against parvo and other diseases from their mother before and shortly after birth. These maternal antibodies provide some protection during the first 8 to 12 weeks of life before disappearing from the puppy's body." "Isolation of puppies until they can receive a full series of vaccine appears to be the best way to insure their future."

| Vaccinations are always a tricky subject. people always wonder if they are really necessary, i've had this conversation a million times with my friends about our kids. I personally endorse vaccinations and find that a small dog such as a yorkie that is so close to the ground benefits from being fully vaccinated. I also think that due to parvo being so easy to pick up i would wait until all shots are done before actually walking your pup on the ground. Carrier is fine before and I took my dog on walks before his rabies shot, btw. |
