Sammy could have picked up the fleas anywhere, or you could have brought them in on your clothes. Make sure to wash his bedding. If he's been actively chewing on himself...make sure you monitor his bowel movements....fleas do carry tape worms.

These insects can jump distances so, you can bring them in on your clothes.

| I just saw a flea last night and Kamari has just recently had loose stools. I need to go get some dawn and some more flea spray and powder and it's time to get some more flea and tick medication. Kodak is 3 and I saw a flea when he was 5 months old. After that we never had a problem, now I guess they are back.

| Sure it does...but, the alternative is fleas....You don't use it as a regular maintenance....it's a quick kill on the fleas. Being proactive and having a preventative is best. Tape worms look like little bits of white rice. You can see them in the bowel movements. Doesn't happen overnight. Loose stools can be caused by a multitude of things; eating something that didn't agree with them. Frequent loose stools can be indictative of another type of parasite....blockage....etc. Especially if there is an abnormal bad odor...and mucus......

| .......good for you for not panicking and doing the advantix ....didn't know about dawn but it sounds like a great alternative to poisonous flea treatments ........if you think it's only one flea you could try to get it w a flea comb or scratch his back for a few seconds then immediately turn him over w his back on your lap and try to catch the little critter and snap him between your nails.........if you go online there are other natural alternatives people use....so much better than flea collars and potent treatments that come from the vet.........remember all that poison thats killing the fleas is also going through your baby's bloodstream.........let us know how you do! |

| I'm a big fan of Cap Star. One little pill, and the fleas start falling off within 30 minutes. My vet made the recommendation, and it works for us. Chuy has a nasty allergy to fleas, though. He breaks out in a rash all over his body. I do Cap Star / flea bath twice a week, and an oatmeal soak once a week, and Malaseb topically to treat really bad areas.

| well, i just did the dawn detergent bath tonight. i have just finished blow drying him and i went through his coat good and did not find anything. i am just worried that my 3 cats are going to catch them. i hate to use that stuff on him advatix or cap star, but if he continues to scratch and bite i guess i will have to. is there anything to give him , like food that the fleas would stay off of him? i only walk him on cement when we go to the park, and at home he goes to the bathroom on a cement patio on the 3rd floor. he sleeps in our bed, do i have to strip down everything and bomb the place? thanks for all your help |

Cap Star as Dawn Detergent are both a quick fix...will kill what is on them, but not a preventative.
