| Should I spay now? Or later? Sophie got up to 3 lbs, 5 ounces at 5 months...but now she has dropped again to 3 lbs (when she lost her baby fat) at 6 months. I'm not sure she's even going to make 4 lbs... She's so petite...and her frame is so tiny...So I know she definitely won't be big enough to breed (even 4 lbs would make me uncomfortable). I want to have her spayed, but I don't know if I should go ahead and do it now before she ever goes into heat, or wait until she's around a year old. We're getting Ryder in December, and he'll be the only boy, and only 3 months old at that time...so she'll be a year probably before he can ever produce any sperm. She really doesn't go anywhere except home and to my moms house...I'm too afraid of her catching something or getting stolen. So there's really no risk at all of a male accidently getting to her. What are your opinions on this? |

| My maltese was under 3 lbs and 5 1/2 mos when I had her spayed..she did fine. You just want to make sure you have her spayed before she comes in to her first heat. |

| I think it would be safe to have her spayed now. Just talk with your vet.

| I would wait and make sure all her baby teeth are coming out so she doesnt have to go under again for a vet to pull them

| she should be fine... bailey got spayed at about 6 mo and she was a little over 1 1/2 lb I had confidence in my vet and I think that is the most important thing. I asked my vet what to do and she sayed bailey would be fine so i went ahead with it. Good luck!

| You might want to wait another month for the baby teeth but I'd just go ahead and do it soon before she goes into her first heat. I'm sure she'll be fine.

| Yeah, that's what I'm thinking...I doubt she'll go into heat at 6 or 7 months...but anything is possible I guess. It's not the END of the world if she has a heat though...there are no boys around here YET... |
