| 2 Yorkies thinking of getting another?? Good Idea? Hi all I havent posted in ages. I have 2 yorkies Jack 15lbs and Mandy 3.7lbs. They are almost 2 and half now, I got them both at the same time. They both have been spayed and neutered. I have an opportunity to raise a yorkie pup again and maybe have the possilbilty to breed in about 1 to 2 yrs, if I chose to do so. I have spent tremendous amount of effort and time training my yorkies to ring the bell when they have to go out and housebreaking my yorkies every few months or so have an accident, however it is my fault by not paying attention to the signals. They have an awesome life they have run of the house with lots of window seats and sleep with my hubby and I at night. My concerns are if i were to get this female pup, would this disrupt the equilbrium in the household. I understand what it takes to raise these fun little wonderful companions, however will there be jealousy? Will my dogs regress from there housebreaking habits. we also have 2 cats that are great with my dogs they play and sleep together. I also feel bad in the beginning I will have to crate this cutie. I know in the long run everything will great. Please tell me some of your experiences introducing a new pup when you have 2 or more. OHH I forgot to mention that my 2 love to play with each other but there size difference is soooo huge. This little one will end up around 6 to 8 pounds. This breeded I know very well and the parents are on premises. Please help lol!!!!! |

| You can expect the equilibrium & jealousy. I have a 10 year old female dog and a cat. When my husband gave me my two yorkies it was hate at first sight by my older dog and cat! My older dog is very gentle and sweet. But having two puppy's jumping all over her wanting to play got on her last nerve fast. I ended up giving Rickey (one of my yorkies 6 months old) to my son and his family. My older dog (FiFi) and Noah get along great now. BUT the cat still hates Noah and chases him every chance she gets. She even pounced on him and bit him! He loves it....go figure. Noah weighs 5.2lbs and the cat weighs 15! If you are sure you can give all the animals the time each of them need, then I see nothing wrong with adding to your family if that is really what you want to do. Good luck. |

| Thanks for the response Thanks so much for the input. I can see that being an issue with the older dog. I am hoping that will not be a big issue. I think I may have an easier transition because my dogs are still young not 3 yet and a big plus is that they love to play with other dogs and they are all the same breed because it seems to me when they play they know that its another yorkie lol like they know they are the same lol. I am going out to see the pups again in a little while. Thanks again Verena |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I have 3. I had a 8 year old pom at the time who was always an only dog, then I got Cali at 9 weeks my 5 lb yorkie and then 1 year later I gor Pixie who was 13 months at the time and Cali was 1 1/2 and pom was 9 years old. They all get along. Pixie loves my 11 lb pom and lays by her all the time. She play fights with Cali. It helped that Cali was very laid back and Pixie was wild. Cali just let Pixie take over. I love having 3 and want a 4th.

| I had two yorkies and two big dogs and three cats to begin with when I brought my two newest yorkies into the household. yes, there was jealousy and absolute HATE. But now I catch everyone playing together all the time. The cats don't really care for the yorkies anyway, so they just stay out of the way. So long as you prepare yourself and do what you need to do to raise the new baby right and still give everyone else equal amounts of love and attention, you can TOTALLY add one or two or three more to your happy family!

| I had my chihuhua first(she was about 4 when we added the next), then we got our pom, then we added our yorkie when our pom was about 8 months old and the chi was almost 5 years. The chi didn't like either at first, now she doesn't mind them, she just requires her own space some times so she isn't pestered by them. The other two are best buddies, maybe because the pom was still young when we got the yorkie. They for the most part get along great. I did try and keep the yorkie seperated for the first few weeks from the other two, and I did the same when I got the pom, kept him seperated from my chi for a few weeks. I think keeping them in a confined space(kitchen with gates) helped them all transition better without forcing them into it too quickly. i would think they would all be fine if you go for a third, it just may take some time. Good luck!!

| There will probably be some jealousy in the beginning, but it should go away in a few weeks. You'll have to go through all the housetraining again, but the pup will have two leads to follow and might catch on faster then you think. Best of luck.

| Thanks all !!! You are wonderful. Thanks for all the great responses. I am sure I will be posting again quite often with a new girl!!!!! I am picking her up on friday She is 1lb 12 ounces right now a little over 7 weeks. I am not really picky about the weight I hope she will range between 5 to 8lbs and if I decide to breed in 2 yrs. So they can play with each other not to small that Jack cant play and not to big so Mandy does not feel like the shrimp in the family lol. I love my teapot Jackie bean he's a lover, that was supposed to top out at 8lbs lol now over 2 yrs later is 16lbs.Also my little mini moo Mandy who barely gained more then a few ounces after 19 weeks weighs in at under 4lb she will be 3 in January. I really would like Mandy to have a smaller Yorkie to play with not to small of course that Jack can also play with. Its funny because Jack is so big and Mandy is so small she is the boss at the food bowl. Last edited by vms1177; 11-04-2007 at 04:59 PM. |
