| Thanks for posting this. I have bookmarked it. I didn't know that 3 or more servings of liver a week are bad Mocha's 2 favourite treats have liver in them One of them I use as a potty training treat. Do you think this is too much to give him? |

| are they the biljac ones? I would just find a really good treat that's small, or take a piece of something just to give him for a treat...I try not to give treats(except one in the morning) to all of mine..I give more praises and love when they do something good.. |

| The one that really surprised me was the carrots, green beans and lettuce..never heard about nutmeg either, although, I never spill any of that on the floor..But my big yorkie loves lettuce, if i drop a piece, she always grabs it up..sure didn't know it could hurt her. |

| those three are surprises, because I remember once it was said to shred some lettuce and put in their food. And not very look ago, I was Dr. (vet) Marty Baker (sp) talking about how carrots are one of the best and healthiest treats for a dog.

| I don't accept everything written in that article. No veterinary medicine sources are cited. Also, no amounts, except about garlic. Everything is deadly if way overdone. Every dog I've ever had ate carrots and lettuce and never had a problem. |

| Hmmm, I'm not sure about this. I would never feed chocolate, macadamia nuts, grapes, raisins, onion or garlic (in large amounts). I also won't allow Ellie to eat potato peelings (because of the disese that makes them green) or mushrooms. I have never heard about carrot and green beans not being good for then. Quite a few nutritionists actually use these in recipes (cooked) and I see no problem giving them. I also give Ellie lettuce all the time. That is just how I see I see it though.

| The article says "Dogs can't digest most vegetables (carrots, green beans, lettuce, potatoes or yams) whole or in large pieces." ....so maybe they just meant that you shouldn't give them such big pieces of it, but small or shredded pieces may be ok? |

| td is right...if you read it correctly, it says not large pieces this was on another site. these can be eaten, but NOT in large pieces. Vegetables: Dogs have shorter digestive tracts than humans and cannot digest most vegetables whole or in large chunks. It’s best to put them through a food processor before giving them to your dog Carrots Green Beans Lettuce Potatoes Yams Red and green bell peppers Grains: Grains should not be given in large amounts or make up a large part of a dog’s diet, but these foods are generally safe in small amounts Rice Bread Oats Dairy products Use caution with dairy products as they are high in fat and can cause pancreatitis, gas and diarrhea. Usually, nonfat plain yogurt is safe in small amounts |

| In order for dogs to digest vegetables properly they need to be either lightly steamed or pulverized.
