Newbie Just wanted to say HI! We adopted our Yorkie, "Winston" 6 weeks ago from a rescue organization. Although my husband and I are experience dog owners, we have never had a terrier (or a Yorkie). Yorkie Talk has been extremely helpful. By reading the postings we got many good tips on effective training techniques (like water bottles...who knew!). Thank you to ALL OF YOU! Winston is 1-1/2 years old and has a hereditary hair follical abnormality called color dulation alopecia. This means that his blue gray hairs do not grow normally, they are just short fuzzies. My vet says that the hair will never grow in, there is nothing that can be done. Has anyone ever had any experience with this condition? It supposedly effects Yorkshire Terriers and other breeds like Dobermans.

Welcome from another newbie. Yep, I'm familiar with this condition, but whispersmom is an expert. You can pm her and she'll tell you everything you ever wanted to know- though there is probably a thread on which this has already been discussed, so first try typing alopecia or blue born in search. Best of luck to you!

I also have no experience with the condition, but had to post and commend you for rescuing one of these precious little guys. My Simon is also a rescue baby and he taught me all about yorkies very fast lol. Jeni

I think the condition you are referring to may what they call a "blue yorkie". You can do a search as there were some threads recently on this issue. At any rate... Welcome to Yorkie Talk
