No Longer a Member | 18 Babies saved near my home.. Breaking News: 18 Dogs Seized From Suspected Puppy Mill Scott Lawrence October 30, 2007 - 11:28AM Del.icio.us | Digg | Print Story | E-Mail Story | Font Size KFDM News has video of more than a dozen dogs seized by law enforcement officers from a suspected puppy mill in Fannett. The dogs are in poor condition, according to Brent Weaver with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office. Officers say the dogs were stacked in cages, one on top of another. The dogs have been taken to the Beaumont Animal Control Office on Pine Street. A court hearing in the case is set for next week. The outcome will determine if the dogs are placed for adoption. KFDM News has a crew covering the story. Watch Live at 5, and KFDM News at 6 & 10 for more on the story. NEWS RELEASE FROM JEFFERSON COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE: The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Livestock Deputy is investigating the care and conditions of more than a dozen small dogs being kept at a location in Fannett, Jefferson County. According to information obtained from the Livestock Deputy Charlie Melancon, patrol deputies were dispatched to a location off Highway 365 in Fannett several months ago in reference to a suspicious person. Upon arrival, deputies discovered a large number of dogs being kept at the location. According to the Livestock Deputy, he was notified by the Sheriff's Patrol Deputies to come out to the location to investigate the conditions and care of the animals. The Livestock Deputy then spoke with the homeowner, providing him with information in reference to the law and instructing him to provide better care and living conditions for the animals. It appears those instructions as it relates to the law were not followed and the conditions of the shelter and care of the animals were not to standard, according to the law. As a result, the Livestock Deputy submitted a seizure warrant through Judge Ray Chesson’s office. This resulted in the seizure of the animals at the location in Fannett at approximately 11:00 a.m. this date. The animals were taken to the Beaumont Animal Control on Pine Street where they will be cared for until the JP 4 Court makes a decision on care and custody of the animals. The court date is set for Tuesday November 6 at 10:00 a.m. at JP 4’s Office on Hwy 365 in Hamshire, Jefferson County. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is diligently enforcing laws regarding the care and conditions of which animals are maintained by owners. This is just one of the many duties of our Livestock Deputy. No other information at this time. |

No Longer a Member | **Update On The Dogs** What Will Happen To The Seized Dogs? Jennifer Heathcock October 31, 2007 - 4:50PM Del.icio.us | Digg | Print Story | E-Mail Story | Font Size The 18 dogs that were seized Tuesday have brought many calls and concerns about their well-being. On Wednesday, KFDM looked into the Beaumont animal shelter to see how animals are cared for there and what will happen with these dogs. There are several dogs at the Beaumont Animal Control Center, but authorities won't let us show the 18 that were seized from a property owner in Fannett. According to Dan Parker, “It's evidence in a case with the sheriff's department. We don't want to do anything to compromise the case.” KFDM was on the scene when the Yorkshire Terriers and Pomeranians were brought in. Deputies seized them from a building and travel trailer where investigators say they were living in horrible conditions in cages stacked one on top of another. Now they're living among rows of kennels. The supervisor says animal seizures happen more often than most people realize. “Horses that you can count all the ribs on, dogs that were just.. By right should be 50-60 pounds,” said Parker. The dogs are fed and watered and taken care of every day. Parker says some of these dogs are strays while others belong to someone. "We're required to hold a stray animal for 72 hours. An animal that has an identity tag we're required to hold for 5 days,” he said. After that they're available for adoption, but only for a few days. Only one out of 50 finds a new home. While most dogs don't have a judge on their side, the dogs seized Tuesday will be here until the court orders otherwise. “The best case scenario would be for the judge to let us adopt them out to whoever wants them,” said Parker. Parker says the dogs will be checked by a vet on Thursday. The owner of the 18 dogs is set to appear before a judge next Tuesday. He could release them to the owner or allow the county to put them up for adoption. |

| So Sad!!!!!!!!!!! WHY WHY. Does ANYONE want to do this to these babeis? I just don't understand people. It's sick to see this going on. It's all over. Before long these backyard/puppy mills "SO CALLED" breeders will take our Yorkies and be gone, we MUST save them by KEEPING to the "AKC REAL Standards"!!!!!!!! I'm glad they are out of there, I hope they find good loving homes, I wish ALL Pet mills like this was SHUT DOWN! |
