| what would you do? I just got off the phone wth a lady who is selling 2 maltese for 350 on CL. she says that the parents are AKC and that the puppies have not be to the vet yet. what do you guys think? would you buy a puppy that hasnt been to the vet? she said that she will refund the money if the vet says the puppy is sick. You have 1 week. Im not looking for a maltese but a friend of mine is.

If they are local and since she is letting them go for such a low price, maybe you could ask her to have them checked by the vet and offer to pick up the tab? If she knows the pups are healthy - she shouldn't have a problem with that in the least.... if she refuses, I'd definitely look elsewhere because she likely knows there may be issues. PS - - NEVER trust that you'll receive a refund for ANYTHING unless you have it in writing... and even then, it's often questionable that you'll ever see a dime if you do encounter problems down the road. Just my 2 cents .......

| Wow that is a really low price for a maltese. They're normally as expensive as yorkies are. I wouldn't trust it. They are most likely from a backyard breeder and who knows if they'll be healthy when they grow up. For such a cheap price, I'm positive the parents weren't screen for genetic problems, and she doesn't know if they're healthy since they haven't had a check-up or any vaccines (and don't malteses have dewclaws removed?), and they're probably out-of-standard malteses. One day I'd love to get a maltese but I am SO picky about how they look so I'll have to buy from a show breeder

| If you are interested and want to verify that the parents really are AKC, then get their registration numbers and check it out. I would require that the pups be vet checked prior to consumation of the deal. It sounds too good to be true and I've found that when it sounds too good to be true it usually is. |

| What I would do is all three of you go together and look at them. Leave all your credit cards and money in the car. If you need it I am sure that an ATM is near by. Get a vet check and see what you guys think. I do believe that it is too good to be true, but it is worth a try. Good luck.

| Sounds wierd. Because they are usually around the prices of yorkies, and they haven't been the vet?? Thats wierd. I don't think I would bring in a dog that hasn't been to the vet. Just what I think. Good luck in whatever decision you choose. |

| I wouldn't trust it. If they are good examples of the breed, she should have had them checked by her vet and had their shots taken care of. Why would one sell them for $350 when they are worth much more if they are true examples of the breed. I don't believe for a minute that she just didn't want the hassle of having the dogs checked by her vet when should could make easily double or triple that asking price. Makes no logical sense. I guarantee she is a backyard breeder. You should HEAR some of the horror stories my wife tells me about the backyard breeders that come into her hospital. Like others have said, "You get what you pay for." And "If it looks too good to be true, it probably is."

| I do not think 350.00 is such a low price.that is about what they sell for around here actually an ad last week they were 250.00 so 350.00 is not bad.You could not sell them around here for the price of a yorkie 450.00 tops around here. I would go and look go during the day and take a few people with you!! If that is such a good price where you are? They are adorable we got one for free a few weeks ago the lady breeding them had a heart attack and had to rehome most of her dogs. She is doing well and adapting nicely with the rest of the crew. |

| Sometimes these people breeding them do not take them to vets they think they are healthy and do not want the expense of shots etc so leave it to the buyer to do it if that is what they want. Last edited by 011011; 10-31-2007 at 07:49 AM. |
