| What to do about excessive whining? Hi all! We just recently got a puppy and have been leaving her and our older pup (9 months) together in the kitchen. Roo's not used to this and has been crying/whining really badly- she shakes and gets really upset! It breaks my heart but I want roo and pumpkin to get used to staying alone together! I think part of the problem is she can see me from the hallway between the kitchen and living room. Should I only leave them alone when she can't see me in the living room? I tried a spray bottle for the barking but I think she might be too little (2 lbs) but nothing is working!!! HELP! lol |

| How old is the new one? My little girl is going to be 13 weeks tomorrow, I have had her almost 2 weeks..she is fine as long as she's running in the family room, but, when I put her in her xpen in the laundry room, she cries and cries..as hard as it is, I just ignore her, she finally stops after awhile..now, my son has the brother to her, they have his xpen in their kitchen, he can always see them, so he never cries in his pen..this crying phase can last 2 weeks or longer I'm seeing...just try not to pick her up when she's crying, they are like babies, they learn real quick that if they cry they get picked up..good luck |

| I think the whining problem can be handled very similarly as the barking problem...... "trying" to ignore, praising/treating when NOT whining, practicing short leaves for the separation anxiety, etc. BUT, while I am tough on barking, it's harder for me to be tough on whining. It sounds so much more pitiful. Plus, if I have my choice, I'll take whining over barking ANY day of the week. So, I'm sure that I probably reinforce the whining a bit because I will respond much kinder to a whine. But at least it's not that ear-splitting, glass-shattering barking!!

| Well the whiner is my older 9 month old yorkie. The 12 week old yorkipoo just curls up in my husband's shirt and goes to sleep! I do usually pick Roo up when she whines especially at night- she's a very sensitive little dog and has gotten sick twice because of stress (though these were moving related stresses so maybe short seperation won't hurt too much). The problem is she whines even worse when she can see me and I won't hold her- she even whines while I'm eating dinner and won't pick her up!!! I love my baby but I'm afraid I've spoiled her! Now that we have two I can't afford to leave the other pup alone all the time while I coddle Roo! At this rate I don't think the pups are ever going to be ready for me to get a job and leave them for 8 hours a day! |

| Diddy starting to whine alot in the last few weeks. He is 8 months old. I can't even go in the bathroom or to take the trash out without him whining. I don't know what to do to stop it either. It makes me feel bad when he whines.
