| Chewing and swallowing small objects Hi. The name of my angel is Abby - a 13 mo. old sweetie and also a terror. I really try to keep my floors clear of any objects but, much to my dismay, she is constantly ripping apart the bottom of a chair or chewing on a computer wire or something of that sort. She has even removed a snap from my robe while sitting in my lap. In any event, she puts small objects in her mouth and I always try to retrieve them before she swallows them. I have to crate her more than I would like (at this point it should only be used for sleeping and while we are away) but I am fearful that she will (or already has) swallowed something and being such a small dog, is going to have a medical emergency. Any suggestions folks? Thanking you in advance. Nancy W |

| I would go around your house and puppy proof it the best you can. Put plastic tubes around any wires so she can't chew them, spray bitter apple spray on chair legs and other wooden items she may chew on regulary, and put anything up that she's not allowed to chew on/play with. Crates are great while you're away but if you think you're having to crate her a lot while you are home too, I would also get an X-pen. That way you can give her some more room while you're home but aren't able to supervise her.

| Have you tried a puppy kong? Or some other kind of busy toy that requires them to chew? When she does this behaviour have a chew toy on hand as a replacement, like a swap. |

| When Emmy was a puppy she would chew the corner of the window sills. I used hot pepper sauce and it worked. Have you taught her the 'leave it' command? That works for Emmy, if I see her going to get something she shouldn't. |

| We have Yorkie proofed our house pretty much. We are so used to checking the floors now that any tiny little thing catches our eye. We double check everything before we leave.
