| Crate Training When I go to bed at night around 10 o'clock every night i put jake into the crate.. he whines for a little bit, and tears up his paper but soon falls sleep... but he wakes up an hour or 2 later and crys and barks and wants out to play etc.. its just recently that he has started to do this... i have had him for about 4 weeks... the first couple nights he wanted to sleep with me, so i let him and now he don't want to do that and he don't want to sleep in his crate, i don't want him to be crying all night long so i bring him out.. i dogie proofed my room so that he can wander around but i dont wanna do this forever i would like him to sleep in his crate .. is there anything to do?? |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | he's testing you right now. When its time to go to bed, take him outside so he can potty and then put him in the crate. Let him cry. He's got to learn that you are not going to give in so he should learn to like sleeping in the crate. If he gets up and starts crying an hour or two later, ignore him. he most likely does not have to potty and just wants out to play. ignore it. If however he wakes up maybe at 4 or 5 and starts crying he MIGHT have to go pottty. i'd take him out to potty and then put him back in the crate and ignore him again. you say you had him for 4 weeks now so assuming you got him at 12 weeks he's now 4 months old. at four months he may or may not be able to hold it all night long. depends on his size and tolerance. keep at it , and don't feel bad about ignoring him. he'll be better off in the long run.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | ok, at 12 weeks he's probably not going to be able to make it thru the night so if he does wake up in the middle of the night then he probably does have to go. but if its an hour or two after you put him to bed then i'd ignore it. good luck. i know its tough but if you give him tough love now, you'll be happy about it later. a few weeks, maybe even just a few days, and he'll stop doing it.

| You and your boyfriend may want to invest in some ear plugs until your fur baby learns "mama" means NO. My boys love their crate. I cover it at night when I put them in it at bedtime. I always put their teething toy in with them and I don't hear a peep out of them until morning. My dogs Vet gave me some good advice: he said "Make sure your train your dogs and don't let your dogs train YOU." |

| Crate Training My friend has a yorkie that they got when he was just 8 to 10 weeks old. They crate trained Montana to sleep all night in his crate. They put him to bed about 8:30PM every night in his own room and he sleeps all night. Now I have three yorkies and I don't have them trained to sleep all night. I get up sometimes as many as 3 times a night to go outside to potty because I have them sleep with me and my husband. My suggest would be to keep him in a crate at night if you want a complete nights sleep. Good Luck!! |

| My baby Cookie was 3 months when we first got her. The first night she cried so much so i decided to let her sleep with me. My dad called me the next day and told me to put her crate for like an 1 hour with you in the room then take her out and play...then you want to put her in her crate again for a little bit longer and you want your baby to get use to being in there and seeing you and disappearing...So when you put them to bed at night they will slowly get use to being in the crate...If my baby cries i just say Shhh and she will be quiet...She has had an accident before but they learn to hold it longer... i hope this works
