I read about "crate training", "pad training" etc, and I don't know the difference. HELP!!!!! Where should I start??? I am sincerely starting to panic. Lori |

| I never would have got two at once I would never get two at once, they become bonded to each other and much more "doggy oriented". Since you have them, I'd just be sure they have separate crates, and give each, individual attention and hope they bond with you instead of the other puppy |

| I have two that I got at the same time. They are both bonded to me, and to each other. I have never had a problem with them being more attached to each other, than me. As far as potty training goes, I pee pad trained them. If you keep them in a confined area (with potty pads in the same spot) all the time, they will get the hang of going on them.

| Well, Archie and Willie are twins so we did get two at the same time. They are super attached to each other but every bit as attached to me and the rest of their "people". I had read that getting two at the same time was a bad idea, but I think it may depend on the personalities of the puppies and the time you have to devote to them. Frankly, getting them both was the best decision we made. Potty training two at once isn't necessarily that much more difficult. Sometimes they help train each other. I know many people swear by crate training, I didn't go that route, but I did start them out with a x-pen sort of thing when I couldn't keep an eye on them. You'll find lots of good advise here on training. The only real suggestion I can offer is --- be consistent, persistent and patient -- super patient. Good luck and congratulations on your new puppies. |

| Me too. We got Jolie & Jen (litter mates) and they are very close to each other but is just as much attached to our 9 year old Jazzie and to Dan & me. They are soooooooo attached to Dan. As for potty training - Crate or confined training is the best - I don't feel the pups need to be separated. Good Luck and Congratulations on the new "Kids"! You are in for double the fun and laughs!

| Serious panic mode I am really over stressed thinking of dealing with not one, but two puppies. On one hand, I can't imagine what I was thinking, allowing this to happen. On the other hand, I figure it will all work out. I know it has barely been a day, and everyone will settle in, but I am so unbelieveably panicked about this. Do I take one out side at a time to go to the bathroom? Take both and try to keep track of them? Maybe I need a fenced in area? Oh me, oh my! Lori |

Yorkie Yakker | potty training I had exact panicking feeling like you back in June when I got my two girls. They are now over 6 month old and I got them spayed just this past Wednesday. Crate training is for you to train your puppies to hold it for certain amount of time before they gradually get used to hold for a longer period of time. (It's a lot of hard work at the beginning because you will have to get up during the middle of the night to potty train them.) Lots of people use pad training as a transition before the puppies are fully potty trainined. My puppies chewed the pads so I failed. Newspaper of course didn't work as well. I eventually got an indoor potty and they got used to it very soon. I am still using the indoor potty now. The following the link gives you an idea how the indoor potty works: http://search.ebay.com/indoor-potty-...Zm37QQfromZR40 (if the link doesn't work, go to ebay and type "indoor dog potty") The puppies know they need to use the potty when they go pee or poop. Indoor potty train works for me because it's very hot in Phoenix when I got them in June. And I don't really want them to go outside when they can possibly get bit by insects or scorpions. Puppies don't have much control over their pee or poop at this age, so I expect lots ot hard work ahead of you. Either indoor potty train or outdoor eventually, there are pros and cons with each way. Yorkies are smart dogs, they will get it soon though. Just remember to praise them a lot and offer them treats when they do the right thing.

Yorkie Yakker | potty training By the way, if you do choose indoor training for now, you probably want to get a crate and a Precision (metal) exercise pen attached to the crate. Then you will have the crate for them to sleep and rest in and the playing area right outside the crate. You can put the indoor potty or pad at the end of the exercise pen. So your puppies know they can regularly go to the spot to pee or poop. The smell of the pee will also help attract them to go to the right spot soon.

| MYC, thank you so much for sharing the link for the indoor potty! I'm calling my pet shop and see if they have one, or can order me one. gomer4, I just got two boys myself. Having two has its ups and downs but mostly ups. For myself getting them potty train is my biggest headache. My pups have already bonded to me as well as each other. They consider me the alpha leader. They are always fighting over who is going to sit in my lap first. I'm glad I have two....it's double trouble and double joy. lol..... Relax and things will work out just fine. |

| I have two boys. Barney and Bennie were the only two in the litter so I guess they could be called twins. We got one and went back 2 weeks later and got the other. The best thing I ever did. Yes, potty training is difficult...But at least , we are getting it over with at one time. We did get lucky, our breeder had already started potty pad training them so I just continued. Yes we have accidents, but they are still young (6 months)....They are getting the hang of it....You will be so glad to have gotten them both in the long run. We also crate them when we are gone.

yes, potty training for two puppies gave me the biggest headache as well. Even when you think they get it already, they have accidents once a while to remind you they are not perfect. Best luck to you, gomer 4.

| We kept the two babies that my Sunshine had. Beamer and Rainbow were the easiest dogs to potty train ever. They stayed in an x-pen anytime we could not devote 100% of our attention to them. They had a potty pad in one corner and a crate and food on the other side and a play area. I took them outside to potty about once an hour except at night. They learned so fast. They are 6 months old and now go outside by themselves at night (actually all the time) I have a 6 foot fenced locked backyard and a doggie door so they can go in and out at thier will. Sonya

| Sunnie....it sounds like you have the perfect set up........the dogs going out by themselves! Just as a follow up, we did take one puppy back. I just couldn't deal with 2 right now. I did realize right almost from the start that I just couldn't devote the time needed to train two. We do have Lilly still, and we have made it through the first week! We are aggresively potty training, using the crate method, and I am trying to train everyone as to how I want it done. It has been very helpful asking people questions here and knowing that this is doable! Thanks! Lori |
