| I have a part time humper. When I visit my Mom, she has an older male yorkie , sometimes Romeo likes to try to hump him. I think it's a dominance issue. My mom's dog is getting older and I think Romeo wants to take on the dominant role. He doesn't get a lipstick...but he tortures my mom's dog. How do I get him to stop. He seems crazed. Please help!

| He probably is trying to be the dominant dog. Time out should do it if your consistent.

| [QUOTE=kalina82;1330593]Oh Romeo, what a little stud. I remember him fancying the dogs at the meet up too. At the meet up i don't think it was dominance but with your Mom's dog i think it might be. I think you just have to show him that your the dominant one and you don't think the behavior is appropriate. If he starts it, push him off and tell him no. If he stops before you get to him you can try a squirt bottle and No, or a can of pennies. Something to startle him out of the behavior. If these don't work then you can try the time out approach. place him in another room if he starts to hump and give him a time out for a minute or two and then bring him back. If he does it again, give him another time out. he'll learn eventually.[/QUOT good idea! you've seen the little maniac in action. lol... he really just does what he wants.. he never listens to me and it's hard to train him because he doesn't like treats. my mom calls him dennis the menace. lol..

| I have a part time humper too. He was neutered on Thursday, so we'll see if that helps at all (my other neutered dog is still a part time humper tho). On a Dog Whisperer episode once or maybe his book, Cesar said that it is sometimes dominance, but is sometimes actually showing respect to the dominant dog. So.... while the young Coby is annoying the elderly Reggie, I just tell Reggie that it's soooo totally out of respect!

| are all Yorkies part time humpers? because if they are then im going to have to my foot down and say now to my wife since she wants to get a yorkie. ive had big dogs all of my life and the grossest thing they have ever done is throw up a dead bird but i think the humping thing would cross the line.

But is throwing up a dead bird REALLY grosser than a part-time humper? Not in my house. I can use the water bottle or a good NO on a humper. I don't think I can stop the other.
