| Search YT on bell training I and a number of other YT members have explained how this is done. Please search the YT archives. Also recommedn the "Take A Bow Wow" video series as a way to start out. There's explanations on how to get a dog to ring a bell, turn off a light, or close a door on this video tape which should be useful for you. |

| Maggie's bell is attached to a short lead leash. After she got the concept of outside training down, the bell training started. She would go to the door--but only sat there until somebody saw her. I trained her by lifting her upper body up to touch the bell. I would ask her if she needed to go PP, then I would say "Ring the Bell". Only took a couple of days for her to get the idea. The only thing now that we have to watch out for, is that she will hit the bell in the evenings, about the same time the frogs come out. That's when we take the bell off the door. Good Luck. Holler if I can help anymore. she is now four months old and housebroken. It was very hard at first, but if you don't let your guard down, it will be over and done with very quickly. Took two months housetraining Maggie. Once you slack off, you might as well start the training all over again.

| Thanks Brenda for the detailed help !! I had searched through the old YT threads and either missed it or didn't get it -- I really appreciate you taking the time to explain that.... Otis hasn't quite got the concept that going outside means going potty - I can see that I need to master that before I get too involved with the bell training....I am going to check on those videos too -- thanks for the info ya'll !! |

| It was my pleasure. Anytime I can help a fellow Yorkie Mama or Papa, I will do the best of my ability. I was going to ask you, if you take your baby out on a leash to potty. That is the way I trained Maggie very quickly. As soon as she did her business, it was right back into the house. Just lately, she is getting to play a little longer outside, but only after she has done her business. I live in the country, so I have to keep an eye out for hawks. This is when I wouldn't mind if she weighed 40 pounds instead of 4. Feel free to private message me anytime. The weight of information I have learned from the members here is shocking. Have a Great Day.
