| how come he only bites me????? Ever since teddy started teething, my hands an toes have been his number one choice for chew toys. No matter how many times I tell him "no" or "ouch" and redirect him to his actual chew toys, he comes right back at me, and it doesn't seem like he's trying to hurt me or anything, its more playful, but his little puppy teeth HURT!!! What really bugs me more is that he won't do this to my husband If he starts to chew on him, my husband just has to say "no bite" and he immediately stops and starts giving him kisses, or he comes over and starts chewing on me. Does anyone know why? Am I doing something wrong? I keep telling my husband its because teddy loves me more, but he's not going for it. HELP!!!! |

| Louie used to do the same thing to me when he was a puppy, but never to my husband. I asked him why and he told me that he was the leader of the pack and Louie knew it. To this day no matter what my husband says to him he always listens. Me on the other hand he just bats his eyes and tilts his head and gets away with anything!!!

| What about putting him in time out when he does it. We have started doing that to our dogs when they bark when someones at the door and they are getting the message and quitting doing it

| I actually have started putting him in puppy time out, but I'm not exactly sure how long he's supposed to stay there. |

| Dogs do not understand TIME OUT. If he is biting you it is because he does not respect you. Treat him as his mother or his litter mates would. Puppies that are taken from their mothers before they have learned "dog ettiquet" will do this. His mother would put him on his back and let him know he'd better not do that again. His litter mates would yelp and walk away from him refusing to play with him. I personally would try the more dominant role of the mother. It should only take about two times, before he learns that you will not tolerate it. He will squeal like you are killing him, but it's just his way of saying "I'm sorry, I won't do that again." Chewing on furniture is a phase, chewing on YOU is bad manners, and can be corrected. Last edited by JeanieK; 08-11-2007 at 02:10 PM. |

| Not long, the first time. And look him in the eys. Count to 10, but don't let him up if he is struggling. It has to be instantly when he bites you, any delay and he won't know what he did wrong. |

| My dogs understand time outs the proof is they have quit barking at the door. It may not work for everyone but I know I am not the only person on here that it did work for

| He's trying to be the boss of you. Is he with you the most? If he is then he knows that your the head of the house. I would lay him on his back when he does that and put 2 finguers on his neck. |
