| house training My Yorkie is one year old. He rarely has accidents in the house anymore, and when he is in his "room" (laundry room) while I'm at work he will hold it for hours and hours. My problem is that during the days I'm at home, he doesn't know how to "tell" me that he needs to go out. At night or in the morning he will scratch at the side of the bed or yip at me to let me know, but when he's just wandering around the house I have to keep an eye on how long it's been. I'm afraid to just "test" him and see how long it takes him to let me know, when I've tried that he has an accident. We hung a bell by the front door, and I ring it with his paw when we go out, but he won't do it on his own. Any advice??? |

| I'm working on this one too. I bought a service bell that lays on the floor and is easy for Molly to reach. I started out with helping her ring it while I was saying "time to go potty" and then I'd give her a Cheerio for ringing the bell. Now she will ring it by herself when I tell her it's time to go potty. I hope that the next step will be her ringing it to tell me when she needs to go out. I'm like you in that I've tried to "test" her, but it always ends up in an accident. Good luck!! Carla |
