| Potty Training my 7 mo old My Yorkie is 7 mo old and has not been fixed. She will do wonderful using potty pads during the night for about 2 days out of the week but the rest of the week it's like she has forgotten everything she knows. During the days she is outside all day because we live in the country but I hate to leave her outside at night and I feel horrible locking her up in a crate. What can I do to get across to her that the potty pads have to be used every time? |

| I don't wish to come across as disrespectful but I really don't think your Yorkie should be outside all and day (and night)! Why did you get this dog? I am sure you love your dog but I have to be honest and say I disapprove of this, yorkies love company. Why don't you read up properly about crate training and start again? It will be very confusing for your puppy, going potty outside during the day then using pads at night, how are they supposed to know? You need to choose one method of housetraining and you need to be consistent in what ever approach you decide to take. When I was training Oscar, I kept his crate by by bed and as soon as he cried, I would open the crate door and take him outside to do his business then I simply returned him to his crate. He soon got the hang of it and now he can last all through the night, so much so he now sleeps on my bed with me! it is really important to let him out as soon as he needs to go wee otherwise he will end up soiling his bed which would really upset him. Oscar still has the odd accident, especially when it is raining and he doesn't want to go out but he is 5 months old and still learning, he will get there in the end as long as I stick with routine. I am sure you will get there too in the end! Good luck to you and your yorkie.

| I'd be afraid to leave her out so much too. You might be better off taking her out every hour till she gets the hint, or putting her on the pad once an hour. Just be careful of other animals getting her. |
