| training my new pup Hi everyone; I am getting my new pup on 4 weeks, his father Shaq has been with us since he was 10 weeks old, he is now 2 1/2 years old. we live in a town house, and when we got shaq i use to put the wee pads upstairs not too far from his bad, and down stairs in the powder room, and he trained real fast to go on the pads, when he got all his shuts i started walking with him 4 times a day, and eventually we installed a doogi door to the small patio we have. my problem is that shaq does not know how to ask to go out for a walk, probably because he has his doggi door to the patio and he goes there when ever he wants to, but when we go to people houses he pees all over, how do i train the new pup to ask to go out? did i confuse shaq? |

| i saw in another post that that is what the belly pads are for... I dont know if i said the right name for them.. I had the same problem with my boy. I we went over to visit his two girl friends and he started marking up the place. Now i know next time i go somewhere to just get those pads for him... saves us the frustration |

| I haven't taken my dog to anyone's house yet because he hasn't learned manners If I ever do, I will probably use belly bands unless it is somewhere that I am going to be frequently, then I train him where to go while there. There are some people who train their dog to ring a bell to signal that they need to go out. -O

| I also trained Holly on pads and she also goes outside. When we visit my mom in Texas, I SOMETIMES take her out, but mostly I just take a pad with me and carry that Training aid spray. After one time that she makes in the pad is enough for her to go there every time after that. The belly bands also sounds like a good idea, but if whoever you are visiting doesn't mind if you set down a puppy pad somewhere, then maybe that would be better. Hope it helps a little. Good luck.

| You could train him to ring a bell on your door. Hang some bells on your door and every time you go out to take him for his walk, ring the bell before you open it. Then say some kind of keyword, (potty is the one I use). After a week or so of doing this, start by gently lifting his paw to the bell, or just bump his nose to it so it makes noise. Do this a few days, with the keyword. You will see progress, and reward, reward, reward, everytime he goes to the door or touches the bell on his own. I love the bells!! but beware, at first the puppy will probably start ringing them just to get you to open the door My AprilLove just LOVED to wait until i would sit down, then she would run to the bell and ring it and watch me jump up and come open the door, then she would sit there and look at me like "haha,, gotcha!!!" LOL, but she did learn eventually to use it for telling me she had to go do her business.

MY Ryoko doesn't go inside he goes outside.. All i have to do is say OUTSIDE and he gets excited and goes... or he will walk by the back door a few times , then i know he has to go.. It just surprised me that he marked the ladies house we were visiting, cause he is pretty much potty trained. He is so good about going outside i didn't know how to discipline him when he marked the ladies house cause i knew why he did it.... i was just in shock | |
