| Housebreaking Back in April, I posted about the death of my little Mac. There is a possibility that I might be able to get a five year old female. She is being sold because she was not a successful breeder. According to the breeder, she is 90% housebroken. The dog is a finish show dog (whatever that means.) The breeder says I should be able to housebreak her the rest of the way. The dog uses a litterbox, but is also trained to go out a doggie door. My questions are: 1. Should I attempt to train her to go in the litter box? 2. Should I attempt to train her to go outside? 3. Can she be trained to go both inside an outside? 4. She has recently been spayed. Will it be easier as her hormones settle down. How long do you think it will take to train her? My precious Mac came to me already trained, so this is new territory for me. Advice will be appreciated. Sallyvine |

| Well, my two yorkies are 3 1/2 and 3 and they are housebroken but will have a bad day if I am away longer than 4 hours or if Chloe is ticked off at me (I swear it's true). I'm not a fan of the literbox but I've had a couple of experiences with allergies and two with ingestion of something that caused hospitalization so sometimes I wish I did liter train mine. Yorkies are smart, I'd expect you could still outside train but it might take a lot of patience. |
