| Getting Depressed I've had Silk since March and she will be two in Oct. My husband wants to know when she can quit wearing her diaper? She will go potty when I take her out but she still potties in her diaper. I don't want to quite using it because then she will pee in the house. I never see her squatting in her diaper but she is very busy and does not stay in one place to long. Im starting to think that she will never be potty trained. Chris |

| I'm not sure about how to use a diaper to train...I've always trained mine to potty outside. Maybe she thinks it's OK to go in the diaper, like if she's wearing it she won't have to tell you she needs to go outside.

| It's like a human child. A human child will continue to potty in a diaper, as long as mom keeps putting one on. Maybe your baby needs to step up to training panties. Take her outside every two hours. At night, take her outside at least once. Always take her to the same spot. If you will stick to your guns, she will be housebroken very quickly.

No offense - but unless there is a health reason for the diapers - I don't think you need them or should use them - this is just my honest opinion and only meant in a nice way - but it IS like a toddler - they will never want to learn on their own if they always have diapers on - try to train your baby to go on a pad on the floor OR outside...it might take cleaning up accidents - but it's better than a yorkie in a diaper for her whole life.....The sooner you start - the sooner she'll learn !! Have lots of her favorite treats handy also - They love bribery ! GOOD LUCK ! | |

| I do take her out constaintly and she does go potty outside when I take her marjority of the time....but I still manage to find pee spots all around my house. The diaper is to keep her from peeing on the carpet. She does not go in it all the time but I don't trust her in the house...it is almost like she is marking her territory...like a boy does. She knows to potty outside because like I said she goes when I take her out. The problem is I use the diaper because I cannot watch her every minute she is in the house unless I confine her to a room which I don't want to do. And I never see her peeing so I cannot correct her. |

| Oh...and I prefer outside to training on a pad...just because we have a nice big back yard and my male is trained to go outside. |

| Is your baby crate trained? Even if she is not she needs to be contained in one area where you don't have to worry about her going. Or I have an umblica cord. I tie a rope to her harness and then I tie the other end to my beltloop if she is being especially bad that day.

| This is only a suggestion. I would have my carpet professionally cleaned. Tell them about the pet urine. They can remove all stains and odor. Keep her totally confined, until her PP bad habit is broken. She is two years old. In human life that's 14. She's a teenager now. When you take her outside, keep telling her PP, or whatever word you would like to use. When she is finished, don't allow her to play, but take her back inside right away. Before you put her back in her confined area, give her a PP treat. She will soon learn that if she is good, she gets a treat and also gets out of her confined area. If she doesn't PP, then NO treat. Won't be long and she will PP like the wind.

| Okay...I have Silk tied to my belt and its she looks mad...trying to pull at the leash...she is definately not used to that at all. I have been at this non stop and I guess...I'm just tired. So I just took her out and she went wee wee just fine...We will go every hour until bedtime. Another problem is that she is was used to a doggie door at the breeders and we don't have one here. | Well don't feel bad b/c Reagan isn't completely housebroke yet either, she's almost 8 months. Really I think she's housebroke I just don't think I am. Most the times that she goes inside I believe I forgot to let her out or something along those lines. She knows she's supposed to go outside she just doesn't tell me that she has to go. So I've now started working with her on that. She knows how to speak and everytime I take her out I tell her to sit (right by the door) then get to to bark. I did this with my bloodhound when she was inside and eventually she started barking to let her out. Maybe yours just isn't telling you she needs out (like so many other pups on here that I'm jealous of) and maybe you can try working on that also. Don't give up I'm sure she'll get it soon.

| Also if she's going that much...like 6:45 then again by 7:15 you may want to watch her and make sure she doesn't have a bladder infection. Just watch and make sure she isn't straining when she goes and the urine is ok(no smell or blood). I'm not saying she does have one but you may want to rule it out. Then if that's not it I might recommend crate training so she'll learn to hold it longer. Or make sure she definately went when you took her out. I know when I was giving Reagan treats for going outside she would sometimes just squat for a second and just trickle a little out to get her treat. Then she would still have to go in a little bit because she didn't really go when I took her out. I quit giving her treats b/c of this, and she prob pees on the floor more just out of spite b/c I stopped lol...

| Chris, I PMed you. I have been reading this thread and the advice that Maggie is giving you is right on target! Your baby must be confined while being trained. If an untrained pup can sneak away to potty it will every time! Please don't get discouraged, I can read the desperation in your words. Don't give up dear. Yorkies are totally worth it! You can get through this and then you'll look back and think it wasn't so bad. And do have your carpet professionally cleaned to get the odor completely out. Carpet cleaning companies have special solutions they can use. Good luck and keep us informed.
