I mentioned before, that he had been snapping her...now its worse,he bit her cheek looks pretty bad,was bleeding like forever & all over her clothes.. She just hugged him & he growled @ her so she backed away from him & he pounced @ her & lunged his teeth into her.. It looks more like his teeth scratched her........you know like a bad Cat cratch...also with a bite @ the bottom.. I dont know what to do now......I wa told he is being the Dominant one & they go for the smallest in the family to attack... Help me .....I just do not know what to do now.. |

| How is she now, is she ok? Is she still bleeding? I think that you should contact a Behavoral Trainer. I do think that this issue needs to be addressed now and I do feel that it can be solved, so that you all can live as a big happy family Keep us posted |

| Sorry to hear it. It's hard to generalize but perhaps there was something in the child's manner that aroused the "get the prey" instinct? Our 3-year-old Yorkie can bite too. Usually it takes a motorcycle or some large vehicle to rumble by, to upset him but the other day he bit me when a Vespa scooter went by close. |

| I am sorry to hear that. Bitting is a very serious aggression problem, especially towards children because they can't defend themself. I saw an episode on dog whisperer recently on how to introduce dog to a newborn. Basically the dog needs to learn that you are the pack leader in the house. By extenion your child is the pack leader as well, and he needs to learn the boundry that attacking your child can never be tolerated. Does he has any other behavior problems such as food aggression or toy possession issues? I think you need to consult a dog trainer/ behavior specialsit as soon as possible. Good luck. |

| alfiesmummy I am so sorry to hear the news about your yorkie biting your girl, it is common knowledge that small dogs, especially yorkies dont like young children, however very strange that they would bite and cause bleeding! They normally just scare the child with a nip. I have rehomed 2 yorkies from families with small children for the same reason. Hope that you get the problem sorted soon. Justine, alfiesmummy. www.alfieslostterriers.com You may want to post on my site as we have a vet, dog groomer and dog handler on site that may well help you with advice.

| alfiesmummy Most people do think that a little sweet yorkie is the perfect pet, but a yorkie is a tiny rottie, or a great dane in a tiny body, they dont mean any harm, but they are tiny dogs with a big brain and wont take any nonsence!!!! Please take a look at my site re my stolen Alfie, my yorkie that was stolen on the 19th may 2004. www.alfieslostterriers.com

It's a Yorkie Thing Donating Member | Sorry to hear that your little girl was hurt. I hope shes ok. I was told that Yorkies do better in adult homes but my niece has one with four little ones. and they are NOT well behaved. I would be intersted in what the behavior trainers tell you. My niece may need the info soon.

| I don't think it's true that yorkies do not like children. That's definitely a generalization. My yorkie looooves children and has never nipped. In fact we were just with a friend of ours who had her little 8 month old baby, and she was petting him and loving him, and he was sooo excited. He loves all our nephews and niece. Miko was checking on her when she was taking her naps to make sure she was okay And they even let him wake her up. They put him up on the bed where she was napping, and he walked over to her and watched her sleep and layed down by her. Then, he got up and licked her nose Sorry to get off topic, I just wanted to let you all know that not all yorkies don't like kids. I'm sorry that you're having to go through this. Biting is a serious problem, and maybe you could get a trainer for him. I think that with proper training, he can learn to not behave that way. Keep us posted, and I will be praying for your furbaby!!! Again, this situation just stinks. Could it be that he's in pain or something is wrong with him, and he's just taking it out on her? I don't know if this is a possibility, but maybe?

Donating YT 500 Club Member | I hope you'll get some training and that all will be ok. I would hate for something like that to happen in our home. Hugs to your little girl.

| Hugs for everyone Poor you!! I have kids and a yorkie/poodle cross so I know how you must feel. No one is the winner in a situation like this. My doggy sometimes growls at the kids and I tell them to respect that and back off. But if I'm in the same room/area at the time, I will also growl at Toby to let him know that it's not on! Let your daughter be the ONLY one to feed your yorkie for a few weeks, he'll soon respect the hand that feeds him. Toby doesn't like being picked up and can growl then, so I trained him with treats when he let my 8 year-old pick him up and he's much better at it now. Lots of positive reinforcement for all involved, your daughter needs to know that she didn't do anything wrong. "yorkies don't like children" - not always true. A friend has 2 yorkies and the little tiny girl absolutely adores my children - always up for pats and cuddles. |
